Every Friday National Scouting Supervisor Nathan Rode provides a roundup of insider recruiting information and commitments throughout the PBR coverage area: The Buzz. CLICK HERE to take a look at this week’s National Buzz. With that in mind, let’s take an in depth look at the Wisconsin prospects who have committed to colleges, with detailed scouting information
Joe Acker, OF, Marquette University, 2016
University of Nebraska
6/23/15 - The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Acker was the biggest surprise at the ProCase, leaving many in attendance wondering how the right-handed hitting outfielder was still uncommitted. Acker had the most impressive outfield performance of the day. In the workout portion, Acker turned heads by delivering the top outfield velocity of 95 mph while running a 6.78 laser-timed 60. Offensively, he generated the easiest bat speed at the event, hitting from a balanced, controlled setup with a slightly uphill path. During BP, Acker tanked a few balls out of Silver Cross Field with wood (with the wind blowing in). A quick-twitch athlete, Acker has strong hands and creates lift in his swing. Acker also carried his standout workout performance into game play. He went 2-for-3 with a pair of line-drive singles to centerfield and left field. He also drove in a run, scored twice and stole a base.
Keith Kutzler, RHP, Tremper, 2016
St. Louis University
7/12/15 - 6-foot-4, 195-pound, right-handed pitcher with a projectable frame. Currently ranked No. 16 in the Wisconsin Class of 2016. No. 372 in PBR Overall Ranks. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery, falls off to first base side. Showed explosiveness in his delivery. Fastball sat 85-86 topping out at 88 mph. Maintained velocity thru outing. Curveball showed 1-5 shape at 71-74 mph with late action. Changeup sat 69-70 mph with downer action, while maintaining fastball arm speed. Currently uncommitted
Adam Lukas, RHP, Grafton, 2016
University of Evansville
6/18/15 - Large frame, 6-foot-4, 200-pound right-handed pitcher, solid sturdy build. Delivery works slightly across his body, top side stays closed, good tempo, ability to repeat. Arm action is loose, long draw with wrapping action, high ¾ slot, strong arm. Fastball sat 88-90 mph, ability to throw strikes. Curveball has more lateral action, 10/4 plane, 69-72, decels at release, could be better suited for slider. Changeup featured slight sink, 77-80 mph.
Aaron Goecks, OF/3B, Brookfield, 2016
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
7/12/15 - 6-foot, 195-pound, left-handed hitting outfielder with a strong build. Currently ranked No. 38 in the Wisconsin Class of 2016. Uncommitted. Hits from a balanced slightly closed setup. Showed good plate coverage and strength thru contact. 98 mph exit velocity from a tee earlier this summer. Good feel for the barrel with quick hands and strength in the forearms.
Zach Clayton, SS, Oconomowoc, 2017
Oregon State University
6/4/15 - 6-foot-2, 200-pound, right-handed hitter with a strong, mature frame. Soft hands with a playable arm. Showed lateral agility going deep into the hole and throwing across his body on the run to get the runner at first. At the plate hits from an upright stance with a leg lift trigger. Short level swing path. Inside outed a single to center. Went 2-3 on the day with a run scored. Will represent Wisconsin at the PBR Future Games later this summer.
TD Walker, OF, Milwaukee Lutheran, 2016
Jacksonville University
2/8/15 - 6-foot-1, 180-pound outfielder, long lanky projectable frame, lean build, loose athlete. Defensively showed advanced arm strength (89 mph), arm played even better than velo, stayed online and carried well, high accurate, over the top slot, quick arm and release. Attacks the ball well, advanced actions playing through the baseball, quick clean exchange, feet work well, gets through the ball quickly. 7.28 runner in the 60. Right-handed hitter, open stance, smooth loading action, short stride, very balanced, mechanically sound. Good approach, has a presence in the box, excellent bat speed, some pull side tendencies with occasional pop, loose hands work well. 83 mph exit velocity from the tee. Like his upside, easy athlete with projectable frame.
