Three Top 10 Teams Split Three-Way Double Header

WILMOT, WI - The No. 2 (KImberly), No. 5 (Arrowhead) and No. 8 (Wilmot) Power 25 teams squared off in a three-way double header on Saturday, and all they did is made things more difficult to update the Power 25. Each team went 1-1 on the day with No. 8 Wilmot beating No. 5 Arrowhead, No. 5 Arrowhead beating No. 2 Kimberly and No. 2 Kimberly beating No. 8 Wilmot.

Here’s a look at some highlight from the day:

No. 5 Arrowhead - 0
No. 8 Wilmot - 7

Wilmot jumped all over the Warhawks early, scoring in each of the first three frames, including a three spot in the first. Senior outfielder Gunner Peterson’s RBI triple got the Panther offense started, and proved to be enough for his brother Tanner Peterson on the mound.

Tanner threw a complete game, four-hit shutout, striking out three and did not allow a walk to secure the win. He worked effectively and efficiently all day finishing off Arrowhead with a 1-2-3 seventh inning in just five pitches.

Arrowhead’s unforced errors led to much of the Wilmot offense, but SS Justin Paasch and freshman OF Leo Falletti added RBI’s for the Panthers.

No. 2 Kimberly - 4
No. 5 Arrowhead - 10

Arrowhead quickly overcame their game one blunders and looked much sharper in game two defeating Kimberly 10-4. It was a back and forth game early on until a six run fifth inning put things out of reach and secured the Warhawks win.

Arrowhead took its first lead in the second with RBI’s from Joey Bartolone and Luke Dubnicka. Dubnicka finished with a 3-for-5 day driving in one and scoring a run.

The Papermakers took the lead back in the third with a two-out three-run rally highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of John Nett. Beau Schumacher added an RBI single in the inning to take the lead.

In the fourth Arrowhead came right back with two more. Nic Wohlfiel drove in the go ahead run with a well earned base hit to the left-center.

Kimberly unraveled in the fifth as a pair of wild pitches and infield errors bookended a Jeff Holtz two RBI double to right.

No. 8 Wilmot - 1
No. 2 Kimberly - 11

Kimberly turned things around in the final game of the day thanks to a strong outing by junior RHP Jordan Purdy and table setter Zach Lechnir. The Papermakers put away Wilmot 11-1 in six innings.

Purdy took a no-hitter into the sixth where a Josh VanKampen lead off single came around to score the only Wilmot run of the game. His final line tallied six strikeouts, two walks, one hit and one run allowed.

Zach Lechnir finished a home run shy of the cycle, hitting a double, single and a triple in his first three at-bats. Lechnir drove in three runs and scored twice.

Beau Schumacher drove in two with a single and a double while Connor Chitko and Michael Alt each chipped in two hits.
