Underclass Trials: Infield Analysis

We continue our player analysis from the Underclass Trials that took place on June 24th at The Rock in Franklin, WI. Today we roll out infield analysis.

Smooth fielding SS Jack Blomgren takes the top spot among infielders. Blomgren showed arm strength throwing 84 mph across the infield, also ran an event best 7.17 60 yard dash.

1. Jack Blomgren, SS/2B, Janesville Craig, 2017
6-foot, 165-pound athletic middle infielder. Defensively the right-hander has short arm action from high ¾, some accuracy, and has carry on ball. Showed soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, plays thru and is athletic in the field. Threw 84 mph across infield. Offensively hits from wide and open setup, no load, short and even stride, ok lower half, and good balance. Showed fast bat speed, short level and extended path, line drive gap-to-gap type with pull, and has fluid rhythm. Exit velo 84 mph. Ran event best 7.17 60.

2. Sean O’Brien, RHP/3B, Marquette University, 2018
6-foot-0, 175-pound, athletic build, good projectability, right-handed hitter. On the mound displayed a tall-and-fall delivery, short arm action, high ¾ arm slot, landing square on line, athletic finish. Straight fastball sat 80-81 mph. Curveball showed 11/5 shape, thrown for strikes, 63-65 mph. Changeup sat 72-74 mph. Hit from a tall, balanced set up, loads back, short stride, good balance. Fast bat speed, uphill bat path, pull-side approach, 87 mph exit velocity. Defensively showed soft hands, fluid footwork, over-the-top arm slot, with accuracy, 78 mph across the infield. Ran a 7.57 60-time.

3. Hunter Weddel, 2B/OF, Kenosha Tremper, 2017
5-foot-8, 175-pound with strong build. Defensively the right hander has long arm action from ¾ slot, and some carry on ball. Showed average hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, and plays thru. Threw 85 mph across infield and 85 mph from outfield. Offensively, hits from open setup, loads back, short stride, good balance, some quick bat speed, and takes level path. Exit velo 78 mph. Ran 7.58 60.

5-foot-5, 150-pound middle infielder. Offensively hits from right side with balanced and closed setup, drops load, short stride, average balance, average bat speed, and takes long level path. Exit velo 69 mph. Defensively the right hander throws from ¾ slot, short arm action, clean exchange, and sometimes plays thru. Threw 67 mph across infield. Ran 8.35 60.

Jared Antonneau, SS, Cedarburg, 2018
6-foot, 150-pound lanky shortstop. Offensively hits from left side with balanced and open setup, short stride, and average balance. Showed average bat speed, short path, and line drive type. Defensively the right hander has short arm action from over-the-top, some accuracy, clean exchange, and average hands. Threw 67 mph across infield. Ran 7.70 60.

Riley Caracci, 1B/2B, Kimberly, 2017
6-foot-1, 180-pound infielder. Defensively throws from short over-the-top, with average hands. Threw 64 mph across infield. Offensively hits from right side with balanced setup, bar load, short toe tap, fair balance, average bat speed,  and level path. Exit velo 75 mph. Ran 8.76 60.

Nicholas Destefanis, SS/OF, Homestead, 2017
5-foot-11, 170-pound shortstop/outfielder. Defensively the right hander has short arm action from high ¾, some accuracy, some carry on ball. Showed quick clean exchange and plays thru. Threw 78 mph from outfield and 74 mph across infield. Offensively hits from the right side with a balanced setup, drops load, short stride, and fair balance. Showed average bat speed, level path, and oppo type. Exit velo 77 mph. Ran 7.63 60.

Peter Go, SS/3B, Heritage Christian, 2017
6-foot-1, 210-pound infielder. Offensively hits from right side with wide setup, drops load, toe lift, good balance, average bat speed, uphill path and pull type. Exit velo 86 mph. Defensively has short loose arm action from high ¾, average strength, average hands, and clean exchange. Threw 76 mph across infielder. Ran 7.94 60.

Jordan Gomez, 1B/3B, 2019
5-foot-8, 160-pound big corner infielder. Offensively hits from right side with a tall setup, no load, long toe-tap, average balance, some quick bat speed, uphill path, and power type. Exit velo 84 mph. Defensively the right hander throws short arm action from high ¾ arm slot, average hands and average strength. Threw 73 mph across infield. Ran 8.20 60.

Logan Grunenwald, SS/RHP, Wausau West, 2018
6-foot-3, 180-pound, projectable body, right-handed hitter. Hits from a wide set up, short stride, fair balance. Above-average bat speed, long bat path, pull-side approach, 85 mph exit velocity. Defensively showed above-average hands, athletic fielding position, long arm action, carry on throws, 81 mph across the infield. Ran a 7.34 60-time. On the mound displayed a tall-and-fall delivery, ¾ arm slot, landing square. Fastball showed hard arm-side-run, 79-80 mph, touched 81 mph. Curveball had 11/5 shape, 66-68 mph. Changeup had good arm speed, some cut, 71-73 mph.

Daniel Hahn, SS/RHP, Cudahy, 2018
5-foot-5, 125-pound two-way player. Defensively the right hander has short arm action from high ¾, average strength, clean exchange and average hands. Threw 73 mph across infield. Offensively, switch hitter hits from balanced and crouch setup, loads back, short stride, and average balance. Takes short level path and has average bat speed. Exit velo 74 mph. Ran 7.69 60. On the mound, throws from high ¾, long loose arm action, regular effort, some rhythm and in line direction. Fastball was 68-70 mph and touched 71 mph with some cut, curveball sat 62-65 mph with sweeping action, and changeup was 66-67 mph with arm-side-run.

Wyatt Hennessy, 2B/SS, Mukwonago, 2019
5-foot-3, 122-pound middle infielder. Offensively hits from left side with a balanced and open setup, loads back, short stride, and good balance. Showed average bat speed, uphill path and pull type. Exit velo 69 mph. Defensively the right hander showed short arm action from high ¾, and average strength. Threw 60 mph across infield. Ran 8.46 60.

Elijah Jorgenson, SS/2B, Sauk Prairie, 2018
5-foot-8, 160-pound middle infielder. Offensively hits from right side with tall and balanced setup, no load long leg lift, and average balance. Showed some quick bat speed, good approach, and level path. Exit velo 81 mph. Defensively the right hander has short loose arm action, high ¾, average strength, sot hands and is athletic in the field. Threw 74 across infield. Ran 7.47 60.

Keegan Kubicki, SS, Nicolet, 2019
5-foot-6, 127-pound shortstop. Offensively hits from right side with tall and open setup, loads back, short stride, and average balance. Showed average bat speed, short path, line drive pull type, and fluid rhythm. Exit velo 76 mph. Defensively the right hander has short and loose arm action from ¾ slot, some accuracy, average hands, and clean exchange. Threw 65 mph across infield. Ran 7.74 60.

5-foot-11, 205-pound strong corner infielder. Defensively the right-hander has short arm action from over-the-top, accurate, average strength, clean exchange, and fluid footwork. Threw 73 mph across infield. Offensively hits from left side with tall and balanced setup, no load, leg lift, average bat speed, and short path. Exit velo 81 mph. Ran 8.11 60.

Drew Leszczynski, OF/SS, Brookfield Central, 2019
5-foot-11, 155-pound outfielder/shortstop. Defensively the right hander has long loose arm action from high ¾, average hands, clean exchange, and plays thru. Threw 82 mph from the outfield and 79 mph across the infield. Offensively hits from a tall and balanced setup, no load, short leg kick, and good balance. Showed average bat speed, good approach, and level path. Exit velo 68 mph. Ran 7.71 60.

Jack McNeil, 1B/RHP, Edgewood, 2018
6-foot-5, 230-pound, big body, good projectability, two-way player. On the mound displayed a tall-and-fall delivery, short arm action, high ¾ slot, landing square on line, athletic finish. Fastball thrown for strikes, sat 77-79 mph. Sweeping curveball sat 61-66 mph. Changeup 71-74. Right-handed hitter, slightly closed set up, short stride, above-average balance. Good bat speed, level bat path, pull-side approach, 85 mph exit velocity. Defensively had above-average hands, fluid footwork, short arm action, some accuracy, 74 mph across the infield. Ran a 8.57 60-time.

Jake Michalski, SS/RHP, Oak Creek, 2018
6-foot, 175-pound two-way player. Offensively hits from right side, balanced setup, short toe tap, average bat speed, and takes short level path. Exit velo 74 mph. Defensively has short arm action from high ¾, clean exchange, and usually plays thru. Threw 69 mph across the infield. On the mound, the right-hander throws from high ¾, average arm speed, long action, showed regular effort, some rhythm, and square landing. Fastball was 69-70 mph and touched 71 with some run, curveball was 61-63 mph with 11/5 shape and gradual action, and changeup was 63-66 mph with some cut.

Jordan Nolle, SS, Bay Port, 2017
5-foot-11, 155-pound lanky shortstop. Defensively the right hander has long loose arm action from high ¾, accurate, average strength, average hands, and is athletic in the field. Threw 76 mph across infield. Offensively hits from the right side, tall and narrow setup, drops load, long stride, and average balance. Showed average bat speed and an uphill path. Exit velo 79 mph. Ran 7.40 60.

Matthew Osterberg, LHP/1B, Coleman, 2017
6-foot, 150-pound lanky two-way player. On the mound throws from high ¾, quick arm speed, loose arm action, good balance point, easy effort, and tall-fall type. Showed smooth rhythm, in, line direction, square landing, and athletic finish. Fastball was 77-78 mph with some run, curveball was 64-66 mph with 11/5 shape, sweeping motion, sharp action, and thrown for strikes, and changeup sat 64-68 mph with sink. Threw all 3 pitches for strikes. Offensively hits from left side with tall and open setup, loads back, short stride, and good balance. Showed some quick bat speed, short and uphill path, and line drive gap-to-gap drive. Exit velo 74 mph. Defensively has short, loose arm action from ¾ slot, and some carry on ball. Showed average hands and is athletic in the field. Threw 70 mph across infield. Ran 7.78 60. Osterberg projects very well on the mound and is a pitcher to follow in the 2017 class.

Jacob Passow, 1B/3B, Germantown, 2017
6-foot-3, 180-pound corner infielder. Defensively the right hander has long arm action, high ¾, some accuracy, and average strength. Showed average hands, okay footwork, and clean exchange. Threw 77 mph across infield. Offensively hits from right side with balanced setup, loads back, short stride, and average balance. Displayed quick bat speed, level path and line drive type. Exit velo 81 mph. Ran 8.01 60.

Nick Rockweiler, OF/1B/LHP, Elkhorn, 2019
5-foot-9, 135-pound two-way player. Defensively the left hander has long loose arm action, from high ¾, average strength, average hands, and showed good footwork at first base. Threw 63 mph across infield and 68 mph from outfield. Offensively hits from left side with balanced setup, smooth back load, short stride, takes long level path, and good balance. Exit velo 74 mph. Ran 7.66 60.

Chas Sagedahl, LHP/1B, Prairie du Chien, 2017
6-foot-2, 165-pound athletic and lanky two-way player. On the mound the left-hander throws from high ¾, loose arm action, easy effort, smooth rhythm, good tempo, square landing, and athletic finish. Fastball was 75-76 mph and touched 77 with run, curveball was 64-66 mph with 1/7 shape, and sharp action, and changeup was 67-70 mph with some sink. Threw all 3 pitches for strikes. Defensively has short loose arm action from high ¾, with average strength, average hands, clean exchange and fluid footwork. Threw 73 across infield. Offensively hits from right side with tall and open setup, loads back, long stride, average balance, average bat speed, and takes uphill path. Exit velo 84 mph. Ran 7.71 60. Sagedahl projects well on the mound and is a pitcher to follow in the 2017 class.
