6/16/16 - 6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher, athletically strong frame. Hits from a balanced stance, smooth loading action, short stride, maintains excellent balance, quiet eyes. Easy bat speed, strong hands, barrel aware, hard contact in BP. Path has some length, gets to contact quickly, strong bat with extension, gap to gap approach. 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed big arm strength from the crouch, 81 mph, tends to get underneath, misses were up and arm side, arm carries. Pop times ranged 2.04-2.09. 7.1 runner in the 60.
2/9/14 - 5-foot-10, 150-pound catcher, lanky build, projectable frame. Offensively hits with a slightly open stance, short stride, excellent setup, maintains solid balance. Athletic swinger, loose hands, works well, makes hard contact. Generates above average bat speed for age, still has room for strength. Short path with line drive tendencies. Behind the dish posted 2.22-2.26 pop times. Over the top arm slot, occasionally long arm action, 73 mph arm strength from the crouch. Mechanically sound blocking skills. Gilbert has the ability and tools to be a high level catcher. His approach at the plate projects well and has a high ceiling.
6-19-2018: Sophomore, R/R, Catcher, Lakeshore (Creighton) – 6-foot, 190 pounds. Young athletic frame with room to grow. At the plate he sported a balanced athletic stance with a small leg lift with an even stride. Average bat speed. Struggled in the box, didn’t make solid contact. Talented behind the dish. A natural with soft hands while receiving and a plus arm. Looks very comfortable back there. Threw out one runner on the day, while going 0-3 with a K at the plate. (Jake Stone)
