Unsigned Senior Showcase: Right-Handed Pitcher Analysis

One of the biggest Unsigned Senior Showcases on the PBR circuit is the October event at The MAX in McCook, IL. This year more than 130 prospects came out and showcased in front of 50+ coaches in attendance. The last position analysis on the list is right-handed pitchers and there were plenty to choose from. Here’s a look at the top right-handed pitching prospects at the event.

Top right-handed pitching Prospects

 

1. Jim Jarecki, RHP, Marquette University, 2016
Extra-large frame, 6-foot-7, 220-pound right-handed pitcher, strong durable pitchers build. Tall and fall delivery with some effort, tendency to get underneath the baseball, could create additional tilt. Arm action is loose and clean, ¾ slot. Fastball played at 84-86 mph, touched 87 mph, certainly looks to have more in the tank, worked mostly top half of zone. Curveball thrown with arm speed, 75-77 mph, displayed more lateral action, occasional back-up action. Changeup had advanced action, best secondary pitch, excellent fade an arm side action, 78-80 mph, thrown with tempo and arm speed, good feel for the zone. High follow uncommitted senior with projectable arm action and untapped potential.

2. Trevor Newton, RHP, Lincoln-Way Central, 2016
6-foot-4, 170-pound right-handed pitcher, long slender frame, projectable build. Easy delivery, simple and repeatable. Clean loose arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball had life to it, arm side action, 82-84 mph, touched 85. Curveball has 11/5 shape, flashed sharp action, control of the zone, 71-73 mph, showed feel. Changeup is firm and thrown with confidence, advanced action, plays up with good feel and arm speed, 77-78 mph.

3. Jacob Miller, RHP, Plainfield North, 2016
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed pitcher, squared shoulders, lean shape. Delivery plays directionally, firm upper half, uphill shoulder tilt at balance point, firm front side. Arm action has length, high ¾ slot. Fastball showed good finish through the zone, arm side run, 84-86 mph. Curveball looked best out of the stretch, flashed depth, 67-70 mph. Changeup found the strike zone regularly, good sinking action, probably best off-speed pitch, 72-75 mph.

4. Michael Stevens, RHP, Lockport, 2016
Long projectable pitchers frame, upside body, 6-foot-6, 190-pound right-handed pitcher. Delivery has rhythm, high leg lift, slightly across his body, showed ability to repeat well for his size, closed front side. High ¾ arm slot, arm is loose out front, easy release comes out of hand well, projectable arm. Fastball has good tilt, works downhill, 80-83 mph, touched 84 mph. Curveball flashed occasional 12/6 action, flat at times, thrown with arm speed, 73-75 mph. Changeup works well, fading arm side action, 72-74 mph, deceptive. High follow uncommitted senior, like his upside.

5. Evan Liebau, RHP, Jacobs, 2016
6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed pitcher, slender build, lanky frame. Tall and fall delivery, loose athletic delivery, shoulders stay level, slightly closed. Arm action is long and loose, showed arm speed, ¾ slot, easy arm. Fastball has arm side run, feel for the zone, 81-83 mph. Curveball plays on 10/4 plane, slurve type action 70-72 mph. Changeup has sink, arm side action, feel for the zone, 74-76 mph. Showed a sense of pitchability, loose easy arm, showed feel for the mound and controlled the zone.

6. Jack Wolfe, RHP, Sandburg, 2016
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed pitcher average frame. Max effort delivery, recoil finish. Arm plays from a ¾ slot, occasionally gets low 3/4, arm plays underneath the baseball. Fastball is lively, 84-85 mph, touched 86 mph, typically up. Slider has 10/4 action, 78-80 mph. Changeup has advanced fading action, arm side run, 78-80 mph.

7. Matthew Jackson, RHP, Gwendolyn Brooks, 2016
Long lanky frame, slender build, projectable frame, 6-foot-5, 190-pound right-handed pitcher. Delivery works with some effort, uptempo, slight hesitation at balance point, slightly on heels, athletic finish. Arm action has length, high ¾ slot. Fastball has running action, 80-83 mph. Slider works on 10/4 plane, 72-73 mph. Changeup played at 73-75 mph.

8. Al’lon Carter, RHP, Riverside Brookfield, 2016
Thick build, 5-foot-11, 215-pound right-handed pitcher. Compact delivery, comes right at the hitter with effort, recoil finish. Short over the top arm action. Straight four seam fastball, 81-83 mph, topped at 85 mph. Curveball plays 12/6, ranged 71-73 mph, touched 76 mph. Changeup is firm with sink, 77-81 mph, fastball arm speed, has deception.

9. Zach Redis, RHP, Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy, 2016
6-foot-3, 205-pound right-handed pitcher, strong build. Delivery is slight drop and drive style, works slightly across his body, closed toe landing. Arm action is firm, high ¾ slot. Fastball played at 81-84 mph. 11/5 curveball flashed action, 72-73 mph. Straight changeup played at 77-79 mph. Flashed a knuckleball with some action at 74-75 mph.

10. Craig Schuring, RHP/OF, Burlington Central, 2016
6-foot, 170-pound, right-handed hitting RHP/OF. On the mound works from a ¾ arm angle with a short, loose arm action. Tall and fall delivery with some effort. Square landing with an upright finish and recoil. Fastball showed slight running action at 81-82 mph. Curveball showed 10-4 shape with sharp action at times at 67-70 mph. Maintained armspeed on changeup that showed armside run and sink at 76-77 mph. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Accurate throws with carry, throwing 85 mph from the outfield. Plays thru the ball with a clean exchange and fluid footwork. Offensively hits from a tall open stance with a short leg kick stride. Short inside out swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.17.

10. Ryan O’Reilly, RHP, Lincoln-Way East, 2016
6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed pitcher, solid pitchers frame, long levers. Arm works, clean quick arm action, loose, ¾ slot. Delivery repeats with some effort, online and athletic. Fastball had a heavier feel, running action, feel for the zone, 79-80 mph, touched 81 mph. Curveball has 11/5 action, sweeper with good arm speed, dropped for strikes, 68-70 mph, potential swing and miss. Changeup flashed fade, occasional feel for the zone, 70-76 mph.

Jake Beaton, RHP, Lockport, 2016
Strong frame, 6-foot-3, 200-pound right-handed pitcher, athletic build. Full windup, closed landing, slight cross fire, lacks separation. Arm action is short, over the top slot. Straight four seam fastball, 77-80 mph. Changeup played at 71-73 mph. Curveball and slider had similar action, virtually same pitch, curveball worked 67-69 mph, slider 68-69 mph.

Connor Ceglarz, OF/RHP, Tinley Park, 2016
6-foot-1, 185-pound, left-handed hitting OF/RHP with an athletic frame. Defensively has a long arm action from a ¾ arm slot. Quick, fluid footwork with a long, clean exchange. Threw 84 mph from the outfield. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load to backside and toe tap stride. Opposite field hitter with a loose quick bat. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.31. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action and wrap on the backside. Tall and fall delivery with a closed landing, gets extension out front. Fastball was straight at 82-84 mph. Curveball showed minimal action at 73-76 mph. Changeup flashed fade at 74-75 mph.  

Christian Ebeling, SS/RHP, Wheaton Academy, 2016
Wiry 5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop and pitcher. Offensively, creates some bat speed. Balanced setup pre-pitch load and toe-tap trigger. Uphill bat path through the hitting zone. Worked the right-center field gap during his round of batting practice. Registered an exit velocity of 83 mph. Defensively, showed some lateral agility on the infield making a diving play to his glove side up the middle. Fluid footwork, clean exchange and athletic fielding position. Long arm action, high ¾ slot and clocked at 74 mph across the diamond. On the mound the right-handed pitcher offers a four pitch arsenal. Operates with some rhythm, short stride and a slightly upright finish. Short, loose arm action, high ¾ slot and regular effort. Square and online direction. Fastball sat 77-78 mph and touched 79 mph. Change-up looked to be his best offering. Good arm speed, slight sink and fade action, feel and ranged between 72-74 mph. Featured a curveball and a slider. Curveball plays with 11/5 action and sat 68-69 while the slider flashed tighter action, 10/4 shape and sat 71 mph.

Tyler Fitzgerald, RHP, Minooka, 2016
5-foot-9, 140-pound right-handed pitcher, small wiry frame. Delivery has regular effort, occasionally uptempo. Full arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball is mostly straight, occasional slight action, 75-76 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, gradual action, showed some feel for the strike zone, 60-64 mph. Changeup has fading action, near fastball arm speed, 67-71 mph, with feel. Flashed cutter with minimal movement, 69-71 mph.

Jake Fuchs, RHP, New Berlin, 2016
5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed pitcher, lean build. Delivery coils at top of balance position, regular effort. Over the top arm slot. Fastball ranged from 72-74 mph, straight four seam action. Curveball has 12/6 shape, 65-66 mph, rolling action. Changeup sat 68-72 mph.

Josh Fuchs, RHP, New Berlin, 2016
5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed pitcher, lean frame. Balanced delivery, tall and fall, works directionally. Clean arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball had sink, occasional heavy feel, showed control of the strike zone, 79-80 mph. Curveball plays on 12/6 plane, showed feel and shape, 67-68 mph. Showed feel for changeup, mostly flat action, 69-70 mph. Showed feel for three pitches, ability to control the zone.

Matt Garbacz, RHP, Willowbrook, 2016
Slender build, 6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed pitcher. Rotational delivery, closes of front side and works around it. Long arm action, high ¾ slot. Straight four seam fastball, 82-83 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, 65-68 mph, showed above average action, slurve type. Changeup played with slight arm side run, 75-77 mph. Also flashed a cutter with minimal action 77-81 mph.

Jacob Geiger, RHP, Plainfield East, 2016
5-foot-11, 195-pound right-handed pitcher. Uptempo delivery, works with quick pace, showed and ability to repeat and throw strikes. High ¾ slot, short arm action. Fastball has slight gradual sink, 68-71 mph. 11/5 curveball, 54-58 mph, off axis. Showed slider with minimal action, 63-66 mph. Changeup fades, 59-60 mph, ability to find the strike zone.

Darick Hayes, 3B/RHP, Mount Vernon, 2016
Strong body 6-foot, 195-pound right-handed hitting infielder and pitcher. Offensively, easy bat speed and simple swing. Ball jumped off his bat at times and barreled a number of baseballs during his round of batting practice. Gap-to-gap type hitter. Open, tall setup, pre-pitch load, reverse toe-tap trigger and good balance through contact. Short, level bat path through the hitting zone. Registered an exit velocity of 83 mph. Defensively, puts a lot into his throws on the infield. Long arm action, over-the-top slot and clocked at 84 mph. Also, ran a 7.60 60. On the mound the right-handed pitcher operates on-line and short stride. Short arm action, over-the-top window and quick arm speed. Fastball sat 80-82 mph mostly straight. Also, featured a curveball and a slider. Slider looked to be the better pitch, 10/4 action, 71-72 mph. Curveball worked 12/6, 69 mph. Change-up flashed fade and arm-side-run ranging between 74-77 mph.

Carl Krumenauer, C/RHP, Chippewa Falls (WI), 2016
6-foot, 155-pound switch-hitting catcher, slender build. Good runner, 6.95 in the 60 yard dash. Balanced setup from both sides, short stride. Right-handed swing is clearly stronger, flat level path with some length. 76 mph exit velocity from the left side, 78 mph exit velocity from the right. Defensively Arm action is short, over the top slot, 71 mph arm strength out of the crouch. On the infield arm worked similarly, played at 69 mph across the diamond. Showed the ability to play through the baseball to his target. On the mound the wiry right-hander featured a short arm action from an over-the-top slot. Some rhythm in delivery, on-line and square finish. Fastball sat 73-74 mph. Fastball worked 12/6, 62-63 mph. Change-up ranged between 66-68 mph.

Jackson Lewis, RHP, Oak Park-River Forest, 2016
6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed pitcher, average frame. Smooth delivery with repeatable qualities, plays on line with balance. Arm action is long, over the top slot. Showed feel for three pitches. Fastball is mostly straight, slight action is feel of the zone, 75-77 mph. Curveball played on 11/5 plane, flashed tight action, solid feel, dropped for strikes at 64-66 mph. Good feel of changeup at 69-72 mph, mostly straight, lacked action but thrown for strikes with fastball arm action.

John Neville, 1B/RHP, Antioch, 2016
Big bodied 6-foot-3, 235-pound right-handed hitting first baseman and pitcher. Offensively, tall, balanced and simple setup. Smooth pre-pitch, short stride, low hands and average balance through contact. Registered an exit velocity of 86 mph. Defensively, quick and clean exchange. Short arm action, multiple arm angles, accurate and clocked at 74 mph across the diamond. Also, ran an 8.29 60. On the mound the right hander operated with a slight hesitation coming out of leg lift. High ¾ slot, long arm on the backside and regular effort. Square and on-line finish. Fastball sat 75-78 mph, touching 81. Decent feel for curveball worked 11/5 and ranged between 65-69 mph. Change-up sat 66-70 mph.

Jarren Norman, RHP, Morgan Park, 2016
6-foot, 195-pound right-handed pitcher, large build. Full windup has some effort, squared landing recoil finish. Arm plays over the top, short arm action. Fastball has slight sink when down, 79-81 mph. Curveball plays 11/5, near fastball arm speed, tighter spin lacks depth. 68-71 mph. Changeup has some fade, fastball arm speed, showed good feel for the zone. Splitter tumbled, 68-70 mph.

Vincent Pieters, RHP, Catholic Memorial, 2016
6-foot-3, 172-pound right-handed pitcher, lanky build, some projection. Arm action is long, over the top slot, occasionally gets underneath. Fastball is mostly straight, four-seam fastball, flashed occasional tilt when down, 78-80 mph, touched 82 mph. Curveball has 12/6 action, 62-64 mph. Changeup ranged from 69-74 mph.

Neftali Reyes, 3B/RHP, Roberto Clemente, 2016
Athletic and lean build 6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed hitting infielder and pitcher. Offensively, flashed some looseness in swing. Long levers, narrow and tall setup. Leg-lift trigger and average balance through contact. Uphill bat path through the zone. Registered an exit velocity of 82 mph. Defensively, reliable hands on the infield. Long and loose arm action clocked at 83 mph across the diamond. Also, ran a 7.61 60. On the mound the right-handed pitcher worked from an over-the-top slot, short arm action, some rhythm and easy effort. Fastball sat 79-81 mph, touching 82 with occasional run and sink when down in the zone. Curveball ranged between 66-69 mph with near fastball arm speed. Also, featured a change-up with feel that looked to be his best secondary offering. Showed sink and fade, 71-72 mph.

Brandon Rossiter, 2B/OF/RHP, Minooka, 2016
Average build 5-foot-9, 165-pound right-handed hitting infielder, outfielder and pitcher. Offensively, some looseness in swing and made a lot of solid contact during batting practice. Starts from a balanced, open setup. Fluid rhythm, short stride and a gap-to-gap approach. Exit velocity registered 83 mph. Defensively, in the outfield clean exchange and accurate throws. Short arm action, high ¾ slot and clocked at 81 mph. On the infield his arm showed some carry across the diamond. Arm slightly longer action from a ¾ slot and 77 mph across the infield. Also, ran a 7.35 60. On the mound the right-handed pitcher worked with a slight cross fire delivery. Some effort, long arm action, high ¾ slot and athletic finish. Showed feel for fastball with arm-side-run at 80-82 mph. Curveball plays 11/5 with slurvy action, sat 63-64 mph. Flashed fastball arm speed on his change-up, with sink and fade, ranging between 74-76 mph.

Joey Strem, RHP, Willowbrook, 2016
6-foot-2, 205-pound right-handed pitcher, large build. Full overhead windup, tall and fall, coiled/compact balanced position. Full arm swing, high ¾ slot. Fastball touched 85 mph, sat 81-83 mph with heavy finish, feel for the zone. Changeup is mostly flat with occasional sink, 72-73 mph. Curveball varies between 11/5 and 12/6 shape, 67-69 mph.

PJ Teahan, 3B/RHP, Maine South, 2016
6-foot-1, 175-pound athletically built right-handed hitting third baseman and pitcher. Offensively, starts from an open, wide setup. Short, toe-lift stride and average balance. Flashed a level bat path through the hitting zone at times. Registered an exit velocity of 80 mph. Defensively, steady hands and quick exchange on the infield. Throws clocked at 70 mph across the diamond. Also, ran a 7.29 60. On the mound flashed a two-seam fastball that had heaviness and sink at times. Fastball sat 79-81 mph and touched 82. Curveball worked 12/6, gradual action and ranged between 63-67 mph. Long arm action, ¾ slot and square on-line finish.

Justin Woolbright, 3B/RHP, Rockford Lutheran, 2016
6-foot, 200-pound well put together right-handed hitting third baseman and pitcher. Offensively, strong and aggressive swing. Loose, quick hands and present bat speed. Flashed some pop in batting practice, while hitting a number of line drives. Balanced setup, pre-pitch load, short stride and average balance. Registered a 92 mph exit velocity. Defensively, on the infield showed the ability to throw from multiple arm angles. Fields the baseball out front of body, clean exchange and clocked at 81 mph across the diamond. Also, ran a 7.77 60. On the mound the right-handed pitcher operated from a high ¾ window. Short arm action, some rhythm, landed open and effort in his delivery. Featured a slider and curveball. Fastball sat 77-79 mph, touching 80. Curveball worked 12/6, some feel, 66-69 mph. Slider worked 11/5, slightly tighter action, 67-69 mph.
