Positional Profile: OF/3B
Body: 5-11, 170-pounds. Physical, compact frame.
Hit: RHH. Balanced, athletic stance with present strength in the hands. Short path to the ball producing line-drives off the bat, definite gap-to-gap approach.
Power: 87.5 max exit velocity, averaged 76.5 mph. 275’ max distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 77 mph. Short 3/4 slot with carry out of the hand.
Defense: Athletic defender, quiet footwork with sure hands.
Run: 4.32 runner H-1B.
5-foot-11, 170-pound athletic projectable frame. Clocked a time of 7.02 in the 60-yard dash. At the plate, Howell's best exit velocity was 85 mph via Trackman. Begins in a balanced stance with a small load and uses a toe tap as a timing mechanism. Bat speed is quick and exhibits an uphill simple swing plane with a mostly pull side approach. Smooth action in the outfield with developing arm strength (72 mph OF velocity). Showed a long arm action with an-over-the-top slot. Howell shows some present strength in the hands and handles the barrel well throughout the hitting zone.
5-foot-10, 155-pound mature frame. In the box, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 77 mph. Began in a balanced stance with a smooth load, then used a quick stride to initiate his swing. Bat speed is efficient, shows upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. He Barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Fluid in the outfield, his throws to the bases were maxed out at 73 mph; had consistent footwork and a natural exchange. Used a long arm action with an-over-the-top slot while showing some accuracy to the bag. Clocked a time of 7.4 in the 60-yard dash. Young player that has added a good bit of strength to his frame.
Another 2023 that really jumped out to us at the event. In the OF, the skills and fundamentals are solid and the arm strength will continue to improve as he gets older and stronger, but the defensive actions are solid. Really looked the part at the plate as he started with an even stance with the feet and did a nice job of getting his weight back to the begin the swing. Really kept the barrel through the hitting from a simple, quick approach with the barrel.
