2022 1B Sam Christiansen (Mountain View)- 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, large frame, athletic body with long legs, present athleticism, looks like there is still some maturing left. Left-handed hitter, relaxed upright base, toe tap trigger, lands closed. Loads hands with a high back elbow that gets inside as he starts his swing. Pull approach, slightly uphill swing with above average bat speed, ball jumps of bat with easy effort, 97.78mph exit velocity. Shows athleticism around the bag, tall left-handed thrower with low intent, 73mph arm strength. Ability to throw from different slots on turns to 2B. Fields the ball with two hands, flat glove angle. Left-handed bat with above average athleticism for position should make him a follow going into spring.
6/24/20
6-foot-1 175-pounds, large frame, high waisted, projectable body, good athleticism. Ran a 6.94 60-yard dash as a first basemen. Left-handed hitter, Tall upright base with squared stance. Uses a gathered toe tap trigger, landing slightly closed off. Tall on front leg at times. Small load with some rhythm of the hands pre-pitch. Showed some bat speed and above average pop with a pullside approach. 92mph exit velocity off a tee. Hit a ball at 96mph in live BP. Above average athleticism around the bag a first base. Waits for the ball & fields flat footed at times. Firm hands, throws from a lower slot with 75mph arm strength across the diamond. Follow in 2022 class.
1/27/19 – 5’11 175-pound frame. Continues develop physically fast, significantly stronger and taller than last event. Starts with feet shoulder width and uses a narrow toe tap to create timing and a load into his back side. High intent swing with an exit velo of 80 MPH. Stays back well. Side bends very well, which allows good angles on ball down. May run into issues on the ball up against higher velo. Gets on plane early and through the zone for a long time. Showed good hands at 1B and arm strength at 76 MPH from 1st to 3rd.
5/20/18 - 5-foot-8, 140-pound frame. Appears bigger than listed size. Starting to make a physical jump, improving significantly in every category since we last saw him this winter. Christiansen stands out defensively at first base where he picked literally everything and is very comfortable moving around the bag; posted 73 mph infield velo. Also worked out in the outfield where he registered a 76 mph velo, but is far more comfortable at first base. Hits from taller, balanced setup with high back elbow, dropping hands significantly before taking a slight uphill path to the baseball; 78 mph exit velocity. Also posted 7.69 60-yard dash.
1/7/18 - Young 5-foot-7, 140-pound frame. Offensively hits from tall, slightly open setup, loading hands very high and deep, with a slight pause and drop before making his move at the baseball. 70 mph exit velocity. Worked out at first base and in the outfield, currently profiling best at 1B where he showed solid footwork and feel around the bag. Tends to lead with the elbow, causing some uphill throws defensively. Turned in 71 mph outfield velo and 68 mph on the infield. 7.97 60-yard dash.
