vs Clayton Valley - Cal signee; An attendee at the 2019 ProCase, McClellin has fast been gaining ground on other 2020 prospects in the region. One of the top defenders at the SS position, he's now starting to develop the offensive game that is hinting at who he will become at the college level. The glove skills, range, and athleticism all play right now and project quite favorably. The raw arm grades out as above average now and a future plus tool. The play he made across the middle, gloving the ball on the 2nd base side of the bag and throwing out the runner displayed his instincts, agility, and playmaking ability to a T. The raw footspeed isn't a plus but certainly isn't a big detriment to his game. Offensively he showed a number of things in this game to add up who he is down the road. In one at-bat he sat on a two-strike CB and punched the ball through the right side to drive in a run. Took another pitch away later in the game to flick an infield single to the right side. Lest we think he's a contact-oriented light hitting MIF, later at bats showed him letting the barrel fly and some intent to do damage. There were a couple of swing throughs on high fastballs but he was generally on time, just got a little big. One deep fly ball late in the game (night game, cold!) landed just foul and just short of HR distance, flashing his future power potential that should further evelop and emerge during his college years. There will be some looks at him this spring by the MLB area guys and as they say... it only takes one club to like a player enough.
