Successful start for Dockan that helped lead the Broncos to an 8-2 victory. Building off his successful sophomore season last spring where he posted a 4-2 record with an 1.89 ERA in 44.1 innings, Caden began his junior campaign going 5.1 innings, with 4 hits, 2 runs allowed, and 4 strikeouts. The FB, which sat 85-87 mph, was working early where he picked up a strikeout with it in the first. Attacked it down in the zone but when he needed to, was able to go up with it to hitters who were in two strike holes. Docken also filled the zone with his two main secondaries. His CB was 72-73 mph which was a big drop in speed from the FB and it kept hitters out in front and chasing. His SL, which impressed me the most, was 79-80 mph and had tight horizontal break where he consistently attacked off the plate to RHHs to get numerous whiffs. He also mixed in a few changeups throughout his outing that had tumbling and fading action. Picked up one whiff with it early in his start. The 6-2 junior, committed to UC San Diego looked sharp and also did a great job limiting damage that helped the Broncos keep a comfortable lead when he exited the game in the 6th.

It feels like I’m caught in a time loop. Caden Dockan is another member of this 2026 class at Rancho Bernardo that saw significant and successful time in his sophomore season. Dockan pitched to a 1.89 ERA over 44.1 innings in 2024 and shortly after earned a UCSD commitment in the Fall. With velocities ticking up as he continues to grow, Dockan is an experienced force to be reckoned with for Coastal League opponents. When on, Dockan has a true three-pitch mix that is capable for strikes in any count; Dockan was on yesterday. He kept hitters off balance with a strong mix of his curveball and changeup. The fastball was spotted on the corners and up in the zone with the curveball and changeup tunneling out of the same slot. Dockan showed a near-complete ramp up look going five shutout innings on only 68 pitches. He struck out seven and only allowed five base runners (only one being a walk).
