V Scotts Valley - Uncommitted. 5IP, 2H, 2R (0ER) and 4K. Stuff was down a bit from previous viewings, but competitive nature and ability to attack hitters never changes even with lesser stuff. Spotted FB to both sides of plate working CHG off similar path showing consistent arm speed and being able to pull the string. Also worked in a 2-level CB that was deep and tight showing good feel. Swang bat well later in the day picking up 2 hits and 3 RBIs.

Vs Aptos - Uncommitted. Battled and kept Santa Cruz in the game without his best stuff. 5IP, 5H, 3R, 2BB, 5K. Was able to pitch around trouble for the first three innings getting big strikeouts in the middle of the order but found too much plate in the 4th and 5th and was hit hard giving up his 3 runs. FB 81-83 MPH with better run and angle to the arm side mixing in his CHG and CB. CB didn’t have the same tight spin I’ve seen before and FB didn’t have same angles leading to some long XBH’s including 2 3B, 2 2Bs

3/5/19 at St Francis - Ray started on the hill for Santa Cruz and has been their #1 the last two seasons. He battled through 4 innings showing his bulldog mentality and not giving in to opposing hitters. He punched out 5 giving up 2 hits and walking 2 and hitting 1. Ray is a medium, full frame with a strong lower half and broad shoulders. He’s got a full, over-head delivery with a small foot place showing good posture at the height of the delivery. His arm has length showing behind his back getting to his high-3/4 release having a bit of recoil after finishing with some crossfire. He attacked with the FB (82-84 T85 MPH, 79-81 MPH in 3rd/4th) to both sides of the plate and up in the zone for swing and misses, showing flashes of cut when going to the glove-side. His CB really kept hitters off balance with its difference in velocity (62-65 MPH) and ability to show 1-to-6 actions with short hump before drop. The CB had times where it showed 2-level depth and was used mainly to the arm-side with feel early and late in the count. He also used the CHG sparingly (72-73 MPH) with some sink in the pitch getting swing-and-misses. I saw Ray multiple times last year and love his ability to battle and keep hitters off balance

6/1/18-6/3/18 @ BAWS 2018 - Physical description in previous report. Full overhead delivery with controlled tempo allowing front leg to get down hill. 3/4 release with ability to keep ball hidden behind body; ball has ability to jump on hitters because of deception. Fastball 81-83 mph with arm side run and ability to dial up life through the zone; when control is on point ball has angle vs. being flat up. Curveball 62-67 mph with 2/7 actions showing 2-level break and ability to manipulate pitch for different actions; can make be a back foot for put away or early for strikes. Change-up 75-77 mph straight off fastball plane with late dive at plate; flashes of above average action. Utilized all pitches in different sequences with ability to put hitters away; tendency to pitch backwards.

3/23/18 - Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 178-pound frame; medium build including broad shoulders and higher waist. Ability to continue to mature and fill out frame and impact overall velocity. Developing left-hander with ability to control three pitches in and out of zone; pitches at his best in big games with poise and calmness. 7IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 8K in dominant outing. Full overhead delivery with high front knee. Gets clean break in hands around mid-chest allowing longer action in back. Quick arm with consistent release point and command of all three pitches. Could work on using legs more with extension and drive. Fastball 83-T86 mph all outing with late arm side running sink. Used mainly arm side, but flashed ability to be straight going glove side and bring pitch back over plate. changeup 74-76 mph turns pitch over creating heavy arm side sink; makings for above average pitch with similar path as fastball. Used for ground balls and swing and miss. Curveball 72-75 mph 1/7 break with ability to change shape depending on situation. Average pitch with flashes of above average; at best had late back foot action to right-handed hitters and got swing and miss. Often times pitch was more 3/4 break and could get sweepy through zone. Knows how to pitch and changed sequences throughout game keeping hitters uncomfortable. If velocity made jump, would be a very tough weekend guy to hit at next level especially for left-handed hitters. One to watch for 2019.
