4/23/19

v Bishop ODowd - Strong medium frame with sloped shoulders and full build. Showed off a quick bat to the pull side with a solid hit tool; ripped a double into LCF in 1st AB (4.83T). Catching skills were solid with quick side-to-side agility and the ability to be in a strong blocking position. Arm was fair having times where it was pushy on throws as Bishop O’Dowd tested him during the game; 2.13-2.16 Pop times.

3/30/19

vs American Canyon HS - thick stoutly built player and looks to be about 5-foot-11 200-pounds, give or take a few. There are certainly some tools to work with, in particularly some pop in the bat. The ball leaves his bat well and there is some physicality in his swing, particularly when he's staying middle to right-center (he's a right-handed hitter). Not a runner so that the power production has to play for him to be a contributing offensive player. Showed some knack for RBI in this game both via simply moving the ball w/runner at 3rd base and less than 2-outs and later driving a double to the RCF gap. Pitching faced in this one wasn't exactly of the caliber to evaluate how his tools play at a higher level. Defensive possesses soft strong hands and receives strikes well. Mechanics to receive the low pitch need to improve. Repeatedly struggled to block in this one, particularly in 2-strike counts (3x allowed hitter to reach and one runner to score). Agility of hips and quickness of actions are areas that will have improve. Arm was hard to rate as the warm-up throws were casual (did let one go at 2.10 which was a glimpse of what he's capable of). Accuracy of throws in between innings and in the game as fair at best.

10/20/18

Scrimmage vs Cardinal Newman HS - Body remains same as last viewings, full lower half, burly body type. Pop times in game and between innings 2.15-2.25, arm is strong and ball comes out nicely but was often short of the bag. Showed soft strong receiving hands, flashed block effort and execution but it was inconsistent, offensively the swing was much more uphill than saw last spring, approach seemed to lack focus. Strong kid with power to drive the ball gap to gap though the swing mechanics seem to be evolving into a different approach. Energy and tempo at the catcher position could be better.

3/26/18

Spring game - Previously seen as a catcher but played some 3rd base in the tourney, presumably get another good bat into the team's line-up. Continues to show a fairly mature hitting approach and ability to square up balls in the middle of the field. Good swing trigger and strong hands allows him to let the ball travel and drive it to all fields. Defensively he has the arm for 3rd base and his catching skills translate to being able to make enough routine plays and play a solid 3rd base.

2/10/17

Thick 5-foot-10 185 catcher built for the position with strong legs, sits well as a receiver, strong/soft hands, receives ball well, accurate throws to 2nd base, ball leaves hand easily, warm-up pop time 2.09, offensively he has a good approach that keeps him in the middle of the field, showed gap power with a drive to right-center that resulted in a double, good top-hand on the pitch up and away, seems to have an approach that he trusts and knows what he wants to hit.

vs Justin-Siena HS - 5-foot-10, 190-pounds, true/thick catcher build. Strong arm behind the plate paired with quick release and quiet footwork allows him to throw runners out. Uses leg kick for timing at the plate, level swing allows for him to keep bat in the zone throughout swing. Can use strength to muscle hits on balls with softer contact. Has potential for power numbers, hits the fastball well, can have some trouble staying back on off speed pitches.
