PBR N CA Underclass Games - 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, lean and strong, good baseball body, put together well. Talented all-around player with tools that will translate to the 4-year level. A 2020 to know of in Northern California. Hits with balance and aggressiveness. Lower half is explosive and he possesses plus bat speed. Disciplined hands fired from a small rhythmic load. Good looking swing. Showed power to the pull side and middle of the field. Game at-bat resulted in a hard line drive out to the centerfielder and a competitive at-bat vs one of the top pitchers. Defensively plays low and through the ball with lively feet. Soft hands, clean exchange and the arm strength played naturally as he was fielding and getting rid of it vs loading up to just throw hard. Looked capable of playing up the middle with his efficient transfer and release. All in all a really good looking rising junior.
5/31/19
BAWS 2019 - Long, athletic frame with lean lower half; wiry build with some muscles in it (7.31 60 yd). Balanced, slightly opened stance with even hands and high back elbow; smooth controlled load with short foot lift. Stays behind the baseball with athletic, easily repeatable swing showing good posture and quick turns. Bat is quick with level path showing full finish with two hands; drove gap-to-gap with line drives coming off the bat well (88 MPH). Wider lateral steps with ability to play balanced and stay underneath himself on the move; fluid glove with ability to make adjustments and move well. Loose arm with bow and arrow style delivery; showed ability to keep it on the base (77 mph). Liked the actions with the defense being solid; arm will need to improve to stick on left side of the diamond. Projectable frame with some athletic actions.
3/26/19
Uncommitted; Lean wiry athlete, seemed to have a good awareness of what he wants to hit and good recognition of pitches. Drew two walks in the game, laid off pitchers' pitches and outside of one pretty good CB he took with two-strikes he spit on others and stayed locked in to his approach to hit fastballs in positive counts. Didn't get a ton to hit in this game but in his last at-bat got an early fastball a bit up on inner half and jumped it good, quick hands and good direct path to the ball. Little bit of top spin got it to fall just in front of diving left fielder. The arm strength is presently enough for shortstop at this level though there is some wiggle and length in the arm action that at some point at a higher level could create difficultly making some needed throws. Footwork could have some more rhythm as he did get eaten up on a sharp ground ball right at him. Errors happen so we can't harp on one error. All in all he's a player to see some more of and paint a bigger picture than what we got to go on in this one.
