Puebla took the ball to open the game of the Spartans and provided an intriguing first look for me at the JR. righthander. With a wiry strong athletic frame Puebla works solely out of the stretch, moved well down the mound with low effort in the body and quickness in the arm path and showed the feel to repeat consistently across all his pitches. With no runners on Puebla will utilize a higher leg lift and glove tap with the ball to allow him to sync up before moving down the mound, but with runners on he will shift to a slide step while eliminating the glove tap and interestingly the stuff didn’t suffer any major decline between the different deliveries. Puebla worked off a pair of FBs in a four-seamer that lived at 84-86 MPH and touched 87 MPH while showing riding life and then the righthander showed a two-seam FB in the 80-83 MPH range with boring action to the arm side and sink which was effective to produce ground balls from both RH and LH hitters. His primary off-speed was a sound 75-77 MPH CHG which featured arm side fade, but more tumble downward almost with a soft SPLT like action and he backed that up with a 71-73 MPH CB which has a soft shape, but worked as a cross-count pitch. Puebla was in and around the zone minimizing major misses over the course of a solid five inning outing which included six strikeouts and just one mistake when he left a CHG up to a LH hitter who touched him for a 2-run homer to end his day.
