2/12/2020 vs Delta:Carnazzo didn’t want Tatum to be the only catcher talked about and his defense was similarly solid throughout the game. 5-11, 180 showing agility and flexibility in the lower half with a squared up, long torso frame. That flexibility shows up behind the plate as he was regularly bouncing around before pitches and using a wide one leg variant to stay underneath the baseball. The subtle glove movements stole strikes and his ease of athleticism to block and keep balls right in front of him was impressive. There’s limited wasted movements in the pop with the hand getting to his ear quickly and having small tail to the armside on throws to 2nd (2.03-2.15 between innings). At the plate he showed some discipline picking up a walk in the 1st before just missing a hit down the 3rd base line on a well struck ball that the 3rd baseman made a nice diving play to get him (4.5 H-1st). The tall stance has him rock back a bit in the load and direct hands; would need to see the bat more for full understanding but showed a good approach looking for FB during his ABs.
