4/12/18 - Southern California commit. 6-foot-4, 195-pound frame. Long, lean, wiry strength whose body can handle the addition of mass on his square shouldered frame. Reed showed his usual three-pitch mix of fastball, curveball, and changeup in only his sixth start of the season. His fastball was 88-91 mph early on before settling in at 86-89 mph later in the outing. The pitch shows some arm side run and at times some cut action. His command of the pitch was inconsistent - he hit two batters with FB - often flying open at release. Reed's curveball, a tight, sharp, late breaking pitch, was 76-78 mph early on before settling in at 71-73 mph later in his outing. Early on, Reed's curveball gave the look of a power curveball with 12-6 shape and good depth before levelling out and showing more sweeping action. Reed's changeup shows plus pitch potential at times with boring and tilting movement into righties as it enters the zone. Reed maintained his velocity on this pitch which was 81-83 mph throughout his start. It's important to note that this was game 2 of a double header and Reed started in left field in game 1 and hit in both games.
