2/23/18
Long and lean with a high waist on a 6-foot-1 165-pound frame that is an easily projectable build that can/should add strength without taking away from overall athleticism. Compact, line drive stroke from left side of plate, hands slightly away from body with load into back shoulder. Control of the bat with the ability to spray balls over infielders heads to both sides of field; drag bunt for base hit (3.75). Average runner who moves better underway with need to be more explosive out of box; 4.4 down the line.  At SS, utilizes quick release to play up average arm; tends to play tall at position and can continue to work on accuracy of throws when on the move.

2/4/2020 vs Delta: Koenig is someone I’ve seen multiple times this Fall/Winter and the upside continued to be on display in a 4-inning outing against a deep Delta lineup. The 6-2, 200 frame has square shoulders and length in the limbs while still projecting some added strength as he continues to mature. Koenig had some ups and downs in the outing giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits while walking 4 and striking out 3. 4 of the 6 hits were weak contact created by Delta putting runners in motions or sub-par team defense leaving him in a hole early. Working with a drift and drive delivery over an average front knee that showed firm stability, the compact arm is quick through the 3/4 slot; when he loses his front side, pitches lost their downhill angle missing armside and up. FB 87-90 T91 was heavy with flashes of angles; after a long 2nd/3rd was down to 85-86 but worked back up to 87-88 range afterwards. CHG 78-82 is an above-average weapon that he can throw with trust and late through-the-zone bottom and run; swing and miss type (2K) of pitch able to use on both sides of the plate and goes to it whenever he needs an out. CB 69-71 overhand breaker with late depth; best ones were late snapping 12/6 shaped though there were others he over pulled for loopier 11/5 break. Eventually Koenig might need to swap the CB for a SLD to complement his FB/CHG combination, but I continue to like the upside and his ability to pitch off the Change.

1/3/2020: Preseason Bullpen - Back to Back weeks of seeing Bullpens and can expect a big year at Cabrillo for Koenig. Rock and Fire delivery from stretch showing corkscrew over back hip with easy strength and athleticism. Arm is loose, free and easy through 3/4 slot before showing strength in front leg getting over it and finishing inline down the hill. FB 88-90 working consistently at higher velo. 2S variant occasionally - good pitch to show and set up CHG. CHG 77-81 is a future Abv Avg pitch with late run armside; able to utilize pitch to both sides of the plate and sells it very well. CB 70-72 has tightened up spin still showing 12/6 shape and late bend in it's path to the plate. Can manipulate the bend showing more length with feel. High JUCO follow for 2020 - Future Power 5 arm/Draft guy.

12/5/2019: I last saw Koenig two years ago when he was playing SS for Monte Vista Christian HS and the jump in skills and strength over those two years have been vital for the profile. Koenig sat out his Senior year, putting dedicated work to adding quality mass and strength to the frame and that work has allowed him to make tremendous leaps with the tools. The large, high waisted and squared frame has filled in well and there's still projection available. On the mound, Koenig shows his upside pitching with confidence and attacking hitters using a simple and momentum building delivery; keeps his hands at the waist through an average knee, staying inline and controlling the front leg through landing. Koenig’s arm is compact showing good hand speed out front coming out of the glove with the elbow and unwinding easily into it’s 3/4 release getting swings and missed on his three-pitch mix while picking up 6 Ks over the 3IP. FB 86-89 T90 mainly sitting 87-89 during the outing with short run on both sides of the plate; the FB has been up to 92 this Fall and should be working closer to that velo come Spring. CHG 77-80 with short fade arm-side selling the pitch with good arm speed and using in any count. CB 69-71 long 12/6 with ability to spot in and out of the zone; utilizes the pitch well, but will need to keep armspeed to make pitch more effective in future. At the plate, the LH swing maintains good posture from it’s open, low hand setup with the loose wrists working upward through the zone matching up with the back hip to show pullside raw power during BP; got to it in game taking an 86 MPH FB out to RCF in his 1st AB. Uses legs well out of the box (4.37 H-1st) and with the arm strength fits in RF where he’s transitioned to. Looks like a name for Power 5 conference schools and MLB scouts to follow this Spring.
