USD commit. Costello seems to get better and better in each passing viewing. The San Diego commit nearly made the play of the day charging a slow roller up the line before making a barehanded grab and throw that missed the runner by a half step. Costello appears physically stronger as well as his shoulders and lower half look to be carrying more strength. Throws flash carry now too. Had a strong BP session that saw him spray line drives to all fields using a slight load-and-go with excellent use of the lower half. Showed very good feel for the barrel both during BP and in-game.
1/13/18
Uncommitted. 6-foot, 185 pound frame. Athletic build, long limbs, lean muscle tone, wiry-strong with plenty of room for continued physical development. Athletic infielder that shows position versatility, shows great body control while defending, funnels balls out front, has plenty of arm strength to make throws from anywhere on the infield. Projects to stay at third base in college. Offensively, Costello uses an upright slightly open stance. Shows a slight toe-tap trigger before a slight crouch the drive into ball, flashes present bat speed and ability to catch up to inside fastball, shows some pull-side power along with the ability to hit gap-to-gap. Clocked at 4.87 home-to-first with a turn.
