After going down early, Laffitte played a big part in sparking the Harvard-Westlake offense. In his first two at bats, he produced solid contact with a line drive single and a ground out. In those at bats, he displayed his ability to hit the ball hard the other way. However, it was his last two at bats that stood out the most to me. Although they weren’t the hardest hit balls, he was able to get back to back singles with two strikes. As his team was trying to claw back from an 8 run deficit, they needed base runners and Laffitte provided. In his last at bat especially, he went down to 2 strikes as a runner was in scoring position with himself being the tying run. He was able to battle against Sierra Canyon’s closer and get an RBI single with a humpback line drive the other way. The gritty approach and selflessness to work to get on base for your team is something that will transfer over at the next level and elevate his game.
