3/1/19 - Blawn worked his fastball side-to-side and up-and-down throughout the zone at 84-86 mph. The pitch played up thanks in part to his hammer breaking ball at 71-73 mph. The curveball appeared to be the best pitch on the day. Blawn threw it with conviction and was able to bury it in the dirt or backdoor it. In addition to his ability to work those pitches for strikes was his improved feel for the changeup. He showed a selectiveness to when he was throwing the changeup showing it to be an effective pitch for the arsenal. There was some effort in the delivery, particularly later in the game as Blawn worked to maintain his velocity which dipped a tick beginning in the fourth inning. Sixty-one of his 104 pitches were for strikes and he threw 13 first pitch strikes to the 27 batters he faced.
2018 - Area Code Games - 6-foot-3, 188-pounds. Fastball worked 83-86. Slider 74 mph. Big, broad shoulders. Fast arm with strength delivering out of a high ¾ slot. Falls toward third base line with diagonal fall down the mound. Lots to like from the curveball with 1/7 shape with tight rotation and depth. Some sweep at times with 2/8 shape. Curveball really works from the left side and he will likely make a jump in the future.
