He showed flashes of impact tools on both sides of the ball throughout the day. Behind the plate, he displayed a strong arm, reaching 78 mph on a tracked throw down while posting 2.03 and 2.07 pop times with efficient actions and quick release. His arm strength was clearly respected, limiting his in-game opportunities to control the run game. Offensively, the imposing frame stands out immediately, and he swings with clear intent. The confidence in the box and present physicality give plenty to project on. He finished 4-for-5 with an infield single, a ground ball through the 5-6 hole, a line drive to left, and another hard line drive back up the middle, while also swiping two bases. As the game tightened late, Santa Ynez turned to him to close it out on the mound. Though he did not get the result he wanted, much of the contact against him stayed on the infield. The fastball topped at 91 and sat 85-89 across 2.1 innings, while the slider showed real bite when released out front at 77-81. He also flashed a changeup with some arm-side run in warmups, though I was unable to get a game velocity on it. Overall, he flashed a lot of physical tools conducive to success at the next level.
The first thing you notice about Glover is the solid physical athletic frame he strikes at 6’3 around 205 lbs. with solid strength to his upper/lower body, but maintaining athleticism in his actions. This was my first extended look at the rising ‘27 backstop and the foundation of his toolset showed well in this initial viewing. Behind the plate it’s more foundation than polish with a skillset that can use development/polish to reach his defensive potential. His receive is sound with strength in his wrist to stick pitches and flashes the ability to smoothly present borderline pitches while demonstrating a sound blocking profile he can improve on consistency getting beaten on a pair of breaking balls that beat him to the spot. Glover’s arm shows plenty of strength with low carry to his throws and a 2.02 pop time low, but with plenty of projection to his arm with an improved transfer/cleaner footwork he could easily be a sub 2.0 consistent arm in the future. At the dish the RH hitter is in swing mode early and swing mode often looking to get his hack off at anything within the zone. That type of aggression can lead to positive results with Glover hammering a single to LF in his first at bat and drove a deep drive through the wind to straight away RF narrowly missing an opposite field HR with interesting carry off the bat, but also some room for improvement as he had a FB get in on his hands when he went after a ball in off the plate. Overall Glover is going to be a very good name to keep eyes on going forward in the ‘27 class.
