ACG Tryout - Hertel kept his weight back behind pitches well with decent leg kick; he sprayed all fields with line drives during his batting practice round. Showed good range defensively and just looked very athletic and fluid. Ran a 6.86 second 60 yard dash and threw 77 mph across the diamond.
Positional Profile: SS
Physical: 6-0, 157 pounds; Lean, athletic build. 7.13 runner in the 60.
Offensively: RHH. Even setup, with feet just outside his shoulders; bat positioned at a 45 degree angle. Short take back with the hands with a moderate leg kick for timing. Stays behind the ball while showing an average effort from the legs. Showed a direct swing path with a finish around the back. More line drives than flyballs and groundballs with a peak exit velocity of 91 MPH via Trackman. Smooth and fluid in the box, easy stroke, calm approach.
Defensively: Starts with a balanced setup; uses prep hop while displaying fluid actions to the baseball. Hands are out in front while funneling to the hip before transfer. Short take back from a low 3/4 arm slot. INF - 71 MPH. Graceful actions, not in a hurry but is on time.
