vs Rodriguez HS - Washington State commit; Wise (1-for-3, K) had a solid day for the Panthers. He smashed a single past the shortstop for his only hit of the day in his first at bat and made solid contact in his next two. He is a big kid with a thick lower half and appears big for a shortstop but moves around well and has good instincts. He’s not a phenomenal runner but uses his long strides to make up for it. He has a quick, sidearm release, allowing him to keep his throws on a level plane. At the plate, he’s deep in the box with a wide open stance with hands held high and generates a big swing, one that is going to produce a lot of power. Wise no doubt has the tools to continue playing at the next level and be an impact player.
8/12/18
8/10-8/12/18: Medium frame with pronounced strength throughout including long arms/legs; fit and tight, physically mature build showing muscles all around the body. Offensively utilizes a very high hands set up with high elbows and open stance; steps closed at plate with hand hitch starting path to ball. Very level swing with some length due to hand hitch and path of bat; steep bat path showing small window for contact point, but strength in hands/wrists to muscle balls into OF. Solid round of BP with line drives to CF and shallow gaps; did show swing and miss in game on off-speed pitches. Defensively showed an above average arm from all three infield spots with a flick of the wrist on throws across the diamond; throws from all angles and regularly accurate to all bags. Showed above average glove with very quick first step in the infield having smooth hips and feet and the range at all spots to make tougher plays look easy; size/body shape looked best at 3B where he was able to attack the ball and allow quick feet to set himself up to make plays on the move. Slightly below average runner (4.6, 4.7 home-to-first) played up because of fluid, long stride that was able to make up ground quickly; runs better underway and picks his spots to take extra bases.
