at St. Francis - Our first look at Ortiz was in the CIF-NorCal D1 semi-finals when he was the starting catcher in an all freshman battery with Quentin Marsh on the mound. The body is long, lean and athletic. He moves with athleticism and has agility to be an outstanding receiver and blocker. The arm is big (76 mph) for his grad class and should continue to develop toward an 80 mph catcher arm in the coming years, which with his quick release gives him a chance to be an elite catch/thrower. Competitive hitter with a lively swing, has a mature presence on the field that seems well beyond a freshman in high school.
