NorCal Preseason All-State: Haynes was a regular during the Summer circuit where he showed projectable stuff on the mound during the NorCal ProCase, but the off-season work he’s done is going to make MLB scouts take notice. The arm action is smooth and the delivery is athletic allowing him to get extension down the hill which has improved the life on the fastball through the zone. FB 88-90 consistently working at the high end of the velocity and having life through the zone; pitch showed times with some cut and ride up through the zone as well as 2-seam run under RHH’s hands. The Slider has taken itself to another level with hard biting action (80-83 MPH) with tight spin that was late breaking at the plate; threw one that had more CB bend to it but was also tight and late breaking. We’ve seen Haynes overall abilities previously, but his presence and stuff on the mound looks like where he will be in the future.
BAWS 2019 - Long, lean and projectable showing current strength and putting up tools showing two-way abilities as he worked out in OF/INF and then also hopped on the mound showing off his three pitches. Strong run times with 6.84 60-yd before showing off his defensive skills in both RF and at SS. In RF shows easy athletic actions moving well and allowing his compact arm to produce carry online to the bags (87 MPH); 3B showed a similar compact arm with the high release and loose hips to create easy angles on the baseball moving well (87 MPH). At the plate Haynes keeps hands tight to the body with quick turns designed to produce lift and it showed as he drove the ball through the gaps and middle of the field (93 EV). During the games he showed that strength in the bat driving a 2B into LCF staying on a hanging CB and letting the quick bat get through the zone and moving athletically on his way into 2nd base. On the mound Haynes worked with a three pitch mix flashing potential in the pitches and attacking hitters moving through his inning of work quickly. FB 85-87 with angle down and away before run up through the zone arm side. The CB was a flash with quick depth and overhand spin (77 MPH) while his CHG (79-80) was more predominantly used showing late bottom off that FB down and away look. Haynes continues to show he’s got the tools to be on a college roster next year; where he ends up is a variable that coaches will have fun getting to decide
4/17/19
Fresno Easter Classic 4/15 & 4/17/2019- Large, squared up frame with length in lower half; projectable pitcher body with space in frame for more projection. Controlled, easy velocity from compact 3/4 showing elbow behind the back. FB showed life at plate with cut working 83-85 T86 MPH. SLD 77-79 MPH was late at the plate with short bend flashing tilt through the zone; chance to be a big swing and miss pitch. CHG 80 MPH with some late heaviness at the plate working under RHH swing. / 2nd viewing; starts with bat laid flat in pre-pitch set-up and it does cause length and some timing issues. Bat speed is a plus and barrel is live, looked to be uphill and in a launch angle approach with pull oriented swing. Made solid/good contact each of 3 at-bats, ran fair down the line, there are some tools present though a bit raw at this point offensively.
2/18/19
Scrimmage - Uncommitted as of this report. Didn't have a ton to show for his day but did make hard contact on a couple of occasions and showed off a strong accurate arm. He is a lean tall young man with a lot of physical strength gains he can make, which will only add to what looks to be a bat that has some serious potential. Good outfield arm, accurate with carry.
8/25/18
PBR N CA Underclass Games - 6-foot-2, 180-pounds, long and lean body type with long legs and a high waist, fills out uniform well and looks the part, good physical projection. Showed well as an offensive talent. Tall set-up at the plate, quiet approach with short/minimal stride, hands consistently work inside the ball, has some lift and ability to drove the ball with some loft type power. Swing is easy and as he grows into his strength he has a chance to hit for usable power. Showed home run power in BP round. Used middle and opposite field approach in game at-bats. Good looking young hitting prospect. Defensively takes good angles to the ball and gets feet set up well to make accurate throws. Takes his time with good tempo, showed soft hands and an arm that works from 3rd base, projecting as an average arm. On the mound he has a clean though somewhat mechanical and deliberate delivery, overhand slot, and short stride, with a shallow backside arm action. Velocity will have to tick up to consider him as a pitching prospect beyond the high school level. Tilted the fastball well and kept the ball down, small curveball shape and got to good extension with change-up while working that pitch down in the zone. Projects more favorably as a position player at either 3rd base or possibly 1st base.
