8/13/19: The Harvard closer flashed some power stuff this spring but struggled at times with his control. This summer with Bourne, Shaw rectified those control struggles, blasting the zone with 92-to-94 mph gas, including impressive ride up in the zone. He backed up the heat with an upper-70s 12-to-6 hammer and an 82-to-84 mph short-action slider. At 6-foot, 205 pounds with plenty of effort in the delivery, the profile fits in a future pen, but the stuff is big and arm action plays. Shaw wowed over the course of his 13.2 innings as the Bourne closer (1.32 ERA/0.73 WHIP), striking out 20 while allowing just three walks and seven hits and holding opponents to a .143 average. After improving his walk rate from 5.76/9 IP this spring to 1.97/9 IP this summer and showcasing two above-average pro offerings, Shaw suddenly looks like a legit Day Two prospect for 2020 with late-inning potential.
