vs Monte Vista HS - Cal commit; one of top RHPs in 2023 class in the region/state; compact build on average frame, started in RF and hit in 2nd spot in line-up, consistent middle oppo approach with slashing type line drive stroke, strong hands, aggressive nature with intent, generally regarded as a pitching prospect beyond HS but shows his overall baseball-ness as position player and hitter, which has potential to positively impact how he approaches hitters when he's on the mound.

vs Vacaville HS - Cal commit; An athletically put together young pitcher, looks to be about 5-foot-10 170-pounds. One of the 2023s to emerge very early on, he's appropriately contributing already at the varsity level on a team that will contend for the NCS D1 title this season. High 3/4 slot, quick loose arm, feel for the zone with both the fastball and his hard curveball. Strong lower body provides good stability and power. Entered a tight game, gave up a run early in the outing that could have spelled trouble for a young player but then posted zeros from there on out to eventually earn the win vs one of the state's top teams, Vacaville HS). Fastball was sitting at a pretty steady 85-87, with a high of 88 mph. Good arm side life and willingness to go in. The curveball is good and as he develops will be one of the true hammers among 2023 pitchers in the state. His feel of the 11/5 breaking ball at this stage of his development is as good as the action on the pitch. It's tight and breaks late, with legit swing and miss action. His demeanor was fantastic to see as he stayed cool and collected and if you didn't know he was a freshman, you have guess he was an experienced junior or senior.

Fall Scrimmage vs Cardinal Newman - Uncommitted; One of top pitchers to emerge in this class in the region. Compact athletic build, strong lower half, looked to be about 5-foot-10, 165-170-pounds, high-3/4 slot, loose clean  and quick arm action, good body control, generally good timing and good direction, occasional overthrow and lose of momentum as front side pulled hard to 1st base side, steadied body control in 2-4th innings pitched. Fastball with late life and occasionally well-above average life on arm side, steady 85 mph for most of outing, with some dips down to 83 in stretch and deeper into the outing, topped at 87 mph early and it's not difficult for him to create the velocity. Showed two breaking balls, both with similar shape, curveball with a bit more size and slightly slower at 73 mph and slider a little smaller with quick snap/bite at 75-77 mph. Change with late fade away from left-handed bat, also mid-70s. Chance to develop 3 above average pitches, with fastball pitchability and feel of secondary stuff. Athletic pitcher will be able to repeat and to also maintain stuff in stretch while already showing awareness of working to control the running game.

Fall tournament - Three at-bats is what I got in this first look at a freshman and it was enough to want to see him again. Connelly is a right-handed hitter with a short swing and fast hands. He's got presence at the plate and an intensity about him that can be felt. Compact/strong body type, he ran a couple of solid times on ground outs to 3rd base, 4.42/4.47. Was a little more to the pull-side than I would assume he wanted to be but there wasn't any hook or getting around the ball, he simply cleared his hips and allowed his hands to stay inside the ball, even to the pull-side. No hits to show for his day but the hit talent and some footspeed suggest he's one to put on the radar.
