Hovermale knew exactly what he wanted to do, then went out and did it for six innings. He controlled the game with an aggressive, confident pace, working 6 IP with 6 strikeouts and allowing just 2 hits, never really letting hitters get comfortable or string anything together. It was the kind of outing where the stuff was loud, but the execution and plan made it even tougher for hitters. He ran a deep mix, but the foundation was clearly FB/CH, and it played because he tunneled the two extremely well. The FB sat 89–91 and touched 93, often spotted up in the zone with some sharp arm-side run, then he’d turn around and drop the CH at 83–85 out of the same window with late dive, sometimes even doubling up on it or throwing it first when he felt comfortable. The SL (74–76) was the nastiest pitch in the arsenal, sharp and wide with a sweeper-like look that gave hitters a completely different shape to cover, and the CB added a solid downward look as a fourth pitch. Overall, it was a complete, high-level showing from a high-level LHP.
Hovermale continued his dominant season, tossing six shutout innings against Gahr. The right-hander is now 3-0 with 18.2 innings pitched and a 0.00 ERA.
Hovermale has been dominant on the mound early in the season. The right-hander owns a 2-0 record with 23 strikeouts across 12.2 innings while maintaining a 0.00 ERA.
