One of just two 2027 grads in attendance at the event the rising two-way product who will be featured at Ganesha High School this spring along with Cooper Fleming showed the loud raw tools in his profile, but also the necessary polish that comes with being an underclassmen. His BP was strong showing a quick turn with some present bat speed in the operation and a bat path that works uphill to create primarily loft in the contact quality. There is some length to the bat path as it can get more uphill than necessary creating some issues with consistency to his hard contact, but when he squares it up the ball jumps off the bat with carry especially to the pullside of the field. With approach that his heavily pull oriented in his timing and movements in the box he profiles as power over hit LHH, but the power is there to fit this profile. As much as you want to like his LHH power it's what the long limbed athletic mover does on the mound that has him sitting at #2 in the Prep Baseball California 2027 and inside the Top 5 nationally. His operation is clean and easy with low effort getting down the mound. He stays balanced on the back side in the load of the delivery and has a medium lengthed stride to foot strike with quickness in his hips and borderline explosive arm speed. The hand works deeper below the belt with a slight pause on the backside (not a stabbign motion just a slight pause) then stays behind his body well working up to a 3/4 slot with life on his pitches out the hand. He does feature recoil after release and some pull towards the glove side with his upper body. During his outing he had erratic control mainly with his SLD which eventually he just scrapped throwing and pounded hitters aggressively with his FB. The two pitch mix is top end with a FB that sat at 90-93 MPH and touched 95 (has been up to 95-96 previously) with life through the zone that was able to pick up multiple whiffs in zone and chase above the zone from older more advanced hitters. The SLD has potential with two plane shape coming in at 76-79 MPH, but he lacked feel for the pitch once hitters stepped into the box. Trying to navigate through 5 talented hitters with just a FB even one that has the present life/action of Schmidt's is a daunting task that can come with highs and lows. He got to a 2K count vs. de Brun and after missing with a pair of SLDs tried to beat him with a FB inside and the LH hitter was able to get enough of it earn an INF single. After that he tried one more SLD vs. Gavin Fien and then went heavy FB which resulted in a 2 run HR for Fien. Facing adversity Schmidt showed his cometitiveness coming right back to punch out two of the next three hitters. First Antonio Castro who he got to whiff on 2 FBs and chase the FB up out of the zone before allowing a double to Trent Grindlinger and then came back to punch out Mason Pike on a mid 90's FB that got a whiff in the zone to end the at bat. Highly talented, but still somewhat raw the foundation of tools that Schmidt presents makes it easy to see why he is so highly regarded in the 2027 class. But, where he is future destination is will ultimately be determined by the growth he shows in a variety of areas. He may have the highest ceiling of any player at this event, but likely comes with the most risk (inherent to being a pitcher with high velocity at a young age).

Positional Profile: LHP/1B
Body: 6-0, 175-pounds. Advanced build. Athletic. Longer limbs. Higher waist.
Hit: LHH. Simple set up and swing. Stands relaxed with feet straight up and shoulder width apart. Hands are right behind the ear and move slightly back in load. Simple forward stride with bat getting into a good early connection position. Flat bat path. Advanced bat speed for a ‘27. Lots of LDs to both gaps during BP round. Good use of the lower half. 
Power: 84 mph max exit velocity
Arm: LH. INF - 82 mph. OF - 81 mph. Arm played at both spots. Advanced arm strength with accuracy and easy effort. Shorter arm action on DPs at 1B with a more medium path in the OF.
Defense: Showed well in both the OF/1B. In the OF he moved well. Glove got down early with a quick exchange into crow hop. In the INF showed that same quick exchange on DPs. Also showed an advanced ability to pick.
Run: 7.87 runner in the 60.

Delivery: Advanced feel and repeatability in mechanics. Side steps into a mid chest knee lift. Creates natural drift while maintaining his backside. Some natural pulldown effect with higher front side and uphill shoulders. Maintains good direction through home.
Arm Action: LH. Medium arm path. Slight stab that works fluid to a 3/4 release. Present scap load. Advanced arm speed. Repeats slots.
FB: A lot of movement both ways with 18 inch average VB and 14 inch average HB. 
SL:  Shorter breaker with minimal VB and HB. Good feel in the zone at 75% strike rate. 
CH: Got some downward fading action shown with increased HB and decreased VB. Found the zone with at a 100% clip. Advanced feel.
