The Air Force commit has made tremendous strides since we first saw him two falls ago at an uncommitted games event. His swing has leveled out resulting in more consistent barrels, particularly to the pull side. However, it’s on the mound where he’s made the biggest strides. He’s now up to 92 mph and lives in the 89-91 mph with a wipeout slider at 78-79 mph that flashes late biting action. His changeup is devastating to right handed hitters and may ultimately wind up being his best pitch. It simply falls off the table to lefties and dives to the back foot of righties. While it is uncertain yet where Matsumoto ends up playing when he gets to college - I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of him being a two-way player - the upside on the mound is simply too hard to ignore.

Positional Profile: SS/RHP
Body: 6-4, 184.3 pounds.
Hit: RHH. Balanced setup, works in his legs, toe-taps into a repeatable stride, fluid hand-load. Easy operation, flat path that stays through the zone, some whip in the barrel, balanced finish, showed the ability to use the whole field. 69.5 mph bat speed with 6g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 97 mph max exit velocity (88.8 avg.); 363-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 87.00 mph. Shorter arm path, quick release, lower 3/4 slot.
Defense: Soft hands with some rhythm, plays low and through the ball, shuffles through into his throws.
Athletic Testing: 7.44 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Positional Profile: RHP
Body: 6-4, 184.3-pounds.
Delivery: Smooth and controlled tempo, high leg-lift into his balance point, slight drop/drive lower-half, works in-line, lands with a closed foot, balanced finish.
Arm Action: RH. Medium/longer arm circle, 3/4 release, quick arm.
FB: T89, 86-88 mph. Plays with some carry through the zone, showed the ability to work the pitch to both sides. T2312, 1953 average rpm.
SL: 74-75 mph. 11/5 shape with depth, showed the ability to keep the pitch under the zone. T1903, 1685 average rpm.
CH: 78-78 mph. Plays with heavy arm-side action, sells the pitch with arm-speed. T2095, 2095 average rpm.

Delivery: Quick delivery. Stands tall throughout. Short stride.
Arm Action: RH. Over the top release.
FB: T89, 86-88 mph. Relies heavily on fastball. T2261, 2034 average rpm.
SL: 70-73 mph. Speed differential plays off fastball. T1739, 1655 average rpm.
ATH: 7.22 runner in the 60. 1.63 and 3.94 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. Body control throughout. 28.60 max vertical.

Hit: RHH. Even stance with hands above back shoulder. Wide base, sources power from lower half. Higher launch angle that produces a lot of fly balls. 69 mph bat speed with 7 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 95 max exit velocity, averaged 87.6 mph. 335' max distance. Consistently pulls the ball in the air.
Arm: RH. INF-85 mph. High three quarters release.
Defense: Calm footwork progressing towards the target.
ATH: 7.22 runner in the 60. 1.63 and 3.94 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. Body control throughout. 28.60 max vertical.
