5/7/18 - Duke commit. Pitching in a huge league game, Johnson was electric this day despite not having his frontline stuff. Johnson worked his fastball to each quadrant of the strike zone effectively and produced swing-and-miss results. Touching 86 the pitch lived 83-85 which was down a tick from the last time we saw him. His tight curveball showed good depth and produced weak contact at 72-73. Johnson also showed good feel for his changeup that he threw sparingly at 78-79. The body really projects physically and his athleticism is off the charts - he's a standout basketball player too. Long, lean, wiry strong frame with squared shoulders that can, and should, be able to add mass once he gets into a regimented strength program. The delivery is repeatable from a ¾ slot with easy arm action. Lands online consistently with a medium high leg kick and slight shoulder turn. Long loop in the back. Maintained velocity throughout his start touching 85 in the seventh inning. Generates downhill plane easily.

4/3/18 - 4/6/18 - Frame immediately jumps out. He's a good basketball player and has a long, thin 6-foot-6, 170-pound frame. More narrow-shouldered. Repeats his delivery with ease, and it is polished and clean. Looks very smooth and tight. The arm is fast, but has a slight stab in the back which causes him to lose his high ¾ arm slot at times. Had a big time performance against Notre Dame and went the complete game shutout. The pure stuff doesn't scare you, but he has a solid three-pitch mix right now, and the frame really projects. Fastball worked 84-87 and appeared to be pretty flat, but he worked it in and out with control. Steps across his body for deception. Long limbs. Loose arm minus the slight pause. Slider was thrown for strikes in any count at 74-77. Average pitch that is not swing and miss, but he threw it for strikes and kept them off balance. Higher front shoulder.
