Getting the start in CF, the two-sport athlete (QB for Patterson) showed off a number of tools in the win over Sierra, putting together 3 quality AB’s on the day out of the leadoff spot. Down 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Medina immediately took the Sierra defense by surprise, laying down a perfect bunt down the 3rd base line for a single without a throw. After a 5 pitch BB in his second trip, the Oregon commit sent a 2-0 grounder just past the first baseman’s glove for a leadoff single in the bottom of the 4th. At the plate, Medina exhibits minimal swing-and-miss in his game, getting into his front side well and utilizing a pull-side approach. With a contact-oriented approach, Medina presents solid hip shoulder separation and should be able to tap into some more power if he adds to his 5’ 10” frame. Defensively, Medina plays a solid CF, getting good initial reads on balls in the air and adds in his solid speed. With a solid floor on both sides of the ball, Medina should continue to make an impact for Patterson as he moves into his senior season next year.
