Sandum

10/6/18 - Six-foot-4, 215-pounds, large frame with strength proportionally distributed throughout. Squared shoulders with long limbs and large feet. Sandum, a former University of San Diego player, is now at Orange Coast College where the southpaw figures to be one of the top two pitchers on staff. Sandum shows a full arm action through to a slot and an out-front release point. The arm is free-and-easy with minimal effort. FB mostly 87-89. Starts tall before dropping-and-driving to gain ground down the mound with loose hip action. Lands inline with the target with the occasional cross-body action. Fastball shows some run to the glove side which he pounds in on righties. There's some life to the pitch which he commands very well. There's some deception to the pitch given the ease of the arm action causing it to jump on hitters in a hurry. Shows a couple varieties of curveball - one with an 11-5 shape and the other more sweeping. Both show late and have downer action. Showed command of both varieties while keeping them down in the zone. Sandum's changeup shows good sinking action away from righties and he also threw it to the back foot of lefties. The pitch comes from the same slot and arm speed as his fastball. Sandum threw a couple sliders on the day which showed two-plane break to the back foot of righties.
