Cape Cod: Strong-framed catcher at 6-foot, 208 pounds. He has been a steady performer for two years at San Diego State, emerging as an everyday stalwart as a sophomore, hitting .309/.413/.459 with 14 doubles and five homers, but he hit just .191 this summer. Ruiz has a quiet approach from the right side and drew his share of walks this summer, showing the ability to stay on righthanded spin at times, but struggling vs. spin at others. In our limited look at his defense, Ruiz showed promising receiving and throwing ability.
