Cape Cod: Strong-framed catcher at 6-foot, 208 pounds. He has been a steady performer for two years at San Diego State, emerging as an everyday stalwart as a sophomore, hitting .309/.413/.459 with 14 doubles and five homers, but he hit just .191 this summer. Ruiz has a quiet approach from the right side and drew his share of walks this summer, showing the ability to stay on righthanded spin at times, but struggling vs. spin at others.
