7/10/23

USA CNT: Seemingly intent on improving his pitch selection with four walks (and two HBP) in his first three games of the trials, the left handed hitting Greene also lasered fastballs around the yard. He had two hits to show for it, driving an outer half fastball to left center in the third scrimmage, then following it up with a loud triple to that same gap in the fourth contest. On the bases Greene was a constant stolen base threat who anticipated well with a walking leadoff and very good acceleration. He stole 29 of 31 for the Golden Bears this past spring and another three of six during the trials. Standing 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, he reminds some scouts of Jason Heyward as a prep when he was the 14th overall pick in 2007 by the Braves. His tools and performance to date in college remind of former Pac-12 star Hunter Bishop who was the 10th overall pick by the Giants in 2019. Bishop was considered a high risk prospect due to his high strikeout rate and Greene has an even scarier K rate which sits at just over 31% for his college career. There’s no doubt he has the other tools and athleticism, but due to this vast amount of swing/miss Greene is not a Day One pick. With a strong junior season he could play his way into this area, but his improvement must include making large strides in his swing/miss and plate discipline.

5/25/23

Possesses first round potential for the 2024 draft. So much to like with his tools, athleticism and chance to make an impact at an up the middle position, but also has many questions to answer with swing/miss tendencies, sweepy bat path and a dead pull approach. Slashed .293/.388/.558 with 14 home runs and 29 stolen bases this season, but struck out in nearly 30% of his plate appearances.

3/03/23

An explosive athlete at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, Green’s tools jump off the field. He has a rare combination of easy raw power from the left side as well as impact speed and defensive ability in center. He showed off his bat speed with a no-doubter rocket homer to right on a 90 mph fastball in the third, then lined another fastball to right-center for a single in the seventh. With a wide, open stance and a low hand setup with some waggle, Green has a Dexter Fowler look to his operation and his physique looks like Darryl Strawberry.
