5/31/19

BAWS 2019 - Lean, medium frame with wider shoulders and firm build; athletic and quick feet (7.08 60yd). Slight bend in knees with high hands pulling into pocket with front foot leg kick; swing has good rhythm to it as he stays behind the baseball with strong turns and full finish. Barrel is through zone with quick upwards finish; stayed to the pull side with some lift (82 EV). Behind the plate showed a strong arm with quality transfers allowing him to keep the ball on the bag (2.01-2.14 Pop, 75 MPH). His defense during the games was very good showing excellent blocking and receiving skills with the ability to back pick and keep runners from taking bases getting a couple would be base-stealers (2.07-2.20 Pop). The defensive skills were solid and though he didn’t have the results during the games offensively I liked the swing in BP.

2/19/19 - Game v Rancho Cotate - Uncommitted as of this report. Lean lanky build, displayed quite a bit of the tools/skills of a good defensive catcher, with blocking/controlling the blocked ball being particularly notable. His pitcher (2019 RHP Bennett Flynn) has an outstanding curveball and was quite comfortable throwing it down in the zone and willing to bounce it, showing trust in Loder's ability to make the block, which he did repeatedly and did so in 2-strike counts. As a receiver he was solid, with soft hands and trained technique. He did struggle to get his feet under control to throw when it was a pitch outside his right knee. On a couple of occasions with a stealing runner he had to sling the ball off his back foot and it was always on a pitch outside the right knee. That has to improve as those mechanics led to non-competitive pop times. The arm strength was 73-74 mph and outside of the throws backfoot throws previously described, he was generally accurate with pop times 2.01-2.20. Offensively he has a pull-side approach and generally lets the barrel get ahead of his hands. There is bat speed present and tools to work with.

6/2/18-6/3/18 - BAWS 2018 - Lean athletic build on 6-foot-0 171-pound frame, still growing into physical maturity. High hands with high back elbow. Utilizes leg lift load timing; was slightly off time in batting practice with pullside approach but good barrel awareness. Slightly above average arm with accuracy from behind plate (1.93-2.04 Pop); Solid blocking skills to match accurate arm and was quick on transitions from glove to hand. Catcher runner with below average times. Good all-around catching prospect with room for improvement and physical projection.
