Game Performance

Notes

Comments

3/11/25
Grove had a standout outing on the mound, going the distance in a 4-1 extra-inning victory with a final line of 8 IP, 1 H, 10 K, 2 BB, and 1 R. After allowing a single to lead off the bottom of the second, Grove followed up with 7 no-hit innings to finish the game. The 6’ 0” lefty displayed immediate confidence on the mound, striking out 5 batters the first time through the order. Grove had great command of his fastball throughout the day, locating it inside, outside, and at the knees for called strikes. Additionally, Grove showed good rid on the pitch, getting whiffs above the zone consistently. This played well with his changeup, which he used often when ahead in the count. Grove showcased solid command with his curveball, regularly throwing it for strikes early in the count against RHH and using it as a chase pitch late against LHH. Grove seemed to labor during the third time through the order but adjusted well by going with more of a pitch-to-contact approach, generating a lot of weak contact throughout the day. Grove was also in the cleanup spot for St. Mary’s, helping his own cause with an RBI single in the top of the 6th to tie the game, ultimately forcing extra innings. In the box, Grove creates good separation and has good bat speed through the zone. On the mound, Grove demonstrates an ability to adjust his plan of attack. Not only can he generate swing-and-miss, but he can locate well enough to induce weak contact as the game wears on. With success on both sides of the ball, Grove is a name to look out for.
