6/12/18 - 5-foot-9, 140-pounds, Yamaguchi has present strength in the lower half which he uses well in his swings at the plate. Neutral stance. Slight squat before driving his back hip into the ball. Follow through on swing at times gets him off balance at finish. Shows good feel for the barrel and with a middle-pull approach. Hands start early and arms catch up on the swing. Uses the knob of bat to lead the barrel through the ball. Behind the plate he shows a quiet setup with soft hands. Not a lot of wasted motion between the catch-and-throw. Gets "big" when he drops to block balls in the dirt. Footwork is average right now as is the arm strength which should continue to develop with continued physical maturation.
