Gloff put together a strong look in this one, finishing 2 for 5 with a run scored and the walk off RBI in the eighth. The sophomore center fielder is an intriguing young follow and already looks like a player who is going to keep drawing attention based on the results he’s been able to pull off so far in this young season.. He came into the game with two home runs on the year, and while the ballpark does play small to left, the bat still stands out because of the way he gets to impact. Even when the results were not there early, he still looked like a hitter worth tracking. After a quiet start in his first two at bats, Gloff picked up a single on a pitch that got in on him and did a nice job still finding the barrel and shooting it out. His best swing came in the 8th with the game on the line. He looked all over the fastball the entire at bat, first hammering one on the inner half just foul to left, then getting a very similar pitch and not missing the next time. He stayed on it, turned it around well, and lined it over the third baseman’s head for the walk-off. The swing is smooth and under control, with early hip involvement that helps him get turned on inside pitches. Overall, it was an impressive look and he showed up the way you want a young bat to show up.
This was my first look at Gloff, a 2028 name I’ve heard tons of positive things about. Being on an overall young Scripps Ranch team, Gloff is one of multiple freshman starters but the maturity in the frame and approach are indicative of him seeing varsity playing time on any team. He immediately stood out while taking warmups in the outfield, the movements, size, and throws were all on point before I could even confirm that it was him – warmup and game jersey numbers didn’t match. Facing a tall task at the plate against a potential draft arm, Gloff held his own. He hit two hard groundballs to the left side of the infield being robbed of a hit by strong defense. He then delivered a strong rep in the outfield, getting behind a flyball and delivering a strong throw on the line to third attempting to get a runner tagging up. Gloff then hopped on the mound and looked the part again, throwing a scoreless inning while striking out two. The velocity wasn’t particularly flashy (81-82 mph) but that doesn’t concern me at all for a freshman. Gloff moves extremely well on the mound, he has a strong lead leg block and a quick and whippy arm that indicate future velocity in his development curve. He showed a SL that was 73-76 with good late horizontal movement. It occasionally backed up on him/showed different, more vertical movement that mimics a CB. Gloff has defined size in his upper body and has shown all indicators of an all-around gamer with a future on the mound and in the box.
