4/3/18 - 4/6/18 - Three pitch guy. Fastball has some sink to it, especially when he manipulates it to the arm side. Breaking ball lacked early, but was better later on with 10/4-slurve shape. Frame really plays as he's got long limbs and will be a workhorse type in a couple years. Love the competitiveness of him, and he has polish on the mound with poise. Pitched an early, 9AM game and everyone seemed to be asleep. Longer in the back with the arm. Lots of ground balls with hook in the back. Struggled at times for release point. High ¾ that would drift down some too. Pronates the fastball. The way he pitched without his best stuff was impressive for his age.
1/14/18 - Southern California commit. Physical 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame that projects to firm up with more maturation. Proportional strength, long limbs, lean muscular build, squared shoulders that project for further strength gains. Looks to be one of the top sophomore pitchers in the state after a solid freshman campaign. Ball jumps out of his hand and gets on hitters in a hurry. Moves fastball around entire quadrant. Fastball touched 88 while sitting 85-87 mph with command. Curveball has plus-pitch potential with sharp break and late depth. Sat 73-74 mph touching 75 mph with it. Also a pitch he moves around every quadrant of the zone. Changeup is developing, but he shows good feel for the pitch. Only threw it three times. All three clocked 77 mph. Employs same high ¾ arm slot on all pitches with same arm speed. Has a bit of a head jerk at release. Good genes, father played at USC and in the Blue Jays organization.
