Wiltgen has consistently flashed interesting arm talent with some rawness across his previous outing for our staff at Prep Baseball events, but now the rising 2028 is showing polish in the profile to go with the natural talent in his arm. The first arm to toe the rubber during the simulated gameplay portion of the day, the pressure was on for Wiltgen to set the tone for the day, and he did just that. Living at 86-87 MPH while reaching 88 MPH consistently with a repeatable delivery that filled the strike zone aggressively, he retired all five hitters faced with three Ks and no balls leaving the INF. The life on his FB has improved with his ability to consistently land it in the strike zone, which is what an interesting breaking ball arsenal tick up. He showed a sound 72-75 MPH CB with flashes of sharpness in the break while adding a quality SLD in the lower 70's that has a different movement profile to his CB. Then, for good measure, when asked to mix in his CHG later in the outing, he aggressively attacked the zone by offering to pick up a groundout to shortstop even in a right-on-right matchup. With strong present stuff, upward trending pitchability, an athletic frame that is adding strength, and a confident demeanor, college programs are going to be well served keeping tabs on Wiltgen for the 2028 class.
Wiltgen posted an impressive rotational acceleration during the batting practice portion of the event which was a premonition of the performance to come from him on the mound. The Calabasas High product was solid as a position player with the metrics he showed off, but it was really what he did on the mound that puts him on this list. Wiltgen uses an up-tempo delivery with a long arm action that gets deep behind his body while using that ability to rotate at an elite level with present arm speed to uncork a FB that missed bats or produced soft contact at a high rate. Cash threw his FB in the 83-85 MPH range while touching 86 with the offering that showed intriguing ride and spin traits including present spin above 2300+ RPMs consistently. He pairs the riding life of his FB with a sharp downward breaking CB which flashed power for whiff/chase in the shape while coming in at 70-74 MPH. After walking the first hitter he faced Wiltgen quickly settled in to get soft contact to the 3B for a fielders choice before punching out two hitters in his first inning. He completed the outing with a soft INF single to the left side with more soft contact producing his outs. Wiltgen will need to develop a third pitch and show consistency to throw strikes over the long term to maintain the starters profile, but whether he winds up in a rotation or a bullpen long term the ability this SoCal product showed off was impressive.

Wiltgen entered the event as a pitcher only standing at 6-foot, 185 pounds. He worked in the 83–84 mph range with his FB, topping at 85 mph and spinning it at a lively 2348 rpm. His secondary stuff stood out just as much, with a sharp 67–69 mph curveball (2247 rpm), a 70–71 mph slider (2290 rpm), and a firm changeup at 74–76 mph. While his SL and CB shared the same movement with slightly different shape, it presents a very deceptive mix. Wiltgen shows the ability to spin all three offspeed pitches at a high level, making him a tough at-bat with true pitchability. With a strong, durable frame, Wiltgen presents advanced traits on the mound.
