Dillon Veale, Redwood High (CA), 2029 Positional Profile: 3B/RHP Body: 5-11, 171-pounds. Delivery: Begins with a higher hand set that drops to belt level before syncing up with the front leg. Adds a high leg kick prior to sinking into the back knee and employing a drop/drive movement down the mound. Uses his hips effectively and shows decent feel for blocking with the plant leg. Arm Action: RH. Quick, whippy arm action that initially works downward, then creates depth behind the body. Displays low effort in his arm path as he gets to low 3/4 slot. Some recoil present upon release. FB: Firm FB that pairs run/ride traits. Displays more arm-side run when thrown inside to RHH. Can generate whiffs/induce weak contact when elevated. CB: High spin, big-breaking CB that displays two-plane action, with significant glove-side movement. Movement profile somewhere between a slurve and a sweeper. Potential out pitch when tunneled off the elevated FB. SL: High spin SL with tighter breaking ball shape. Exhibits solid glove-side action with late depth.

Dillon Veale, Redwood High (CA), 2029 Positional Profile: 3B/RHP Body: 5-11, 171-pounds. Hit: RHH. Sets up in a balanced stance with a slight bend in the knees. Hands sit at ear level with a slightly raised back elbow and the barrel resting over the back shoulder, showing a small bat waggle. Initiates the load by sinking slightly into the back knee as the back elbow rises further and the barrel works vertically. Uses a subtle toe tap for timing before a minimal stride forward. Back knee fires as the toe tap lands, with hands working in sync through the swing. Shows a strong front side as the barrel works through the zone. Displays an uphill swing path with a high two-handed finish. Arm: RH. INF-65 mph. Compact arm action out of the glove, working from a very low 3/4 release with the ability to drop down or change angles when needed. Throws accurately across the INF and has room to add arm strength as the frame continues to fill. Defense: Sets up low pre-pitch, letting the ball travel as he works to get around it. Shows decent lateral range with a clean, quick transfer. Demonstrates quiet feet, but moves downhill with intent. Corner INF projection.

Veale makes the drive up from the Visalia area down by Fresno, it was my first time getting to see him and he surely made a positive mark after the day was done. He’s got a good size frame standing at 6’0” 158 lbs, there still a lot room to grow considering he is just 14 years old. Veale ran a 8.02 60-yd dash, that time will go down when he starts to get more mature and gain some additional muscle. The BP was very controlled for Veale, not pretty by any means but he really showed his ability to stay inside baseballs up the middle and occasionally pull one in the LCF gap. Defensively, his actions in the infield are good but his feet do need to be cleaned up if he's going to want to stick at third base. Veale has got a pretty good arm so he’s got a shot to pitch and play the infield as he gets older. Veale was very impressive when he hopped on the mound during the game, his fastball was sitting in the range of 77.1-79.2 MPH while topping out at 81.1 MPH, showing his ability to fill the zone with strikes. His secondary pitch is his slider and its a real breaking ball, its average spin rate on it was just north of 2200+ sitting in the range of 68-70 MPH. Veale is going to be a name to be heard in the Central Valley.
