Berigan

The younger of the two Berigan brothers, Gavin, is quickly making his presence felt as one of the top uncommitted SS prospects in Southern California. Smaller in stature with a more wiry, athletic build than his brother, Gavin is twitchy and athletic in all of his actions on the field. The offensive approach is hitterish with a forward move that hunts the opportunity to pull the trigger, but demonstrates a sound understanding of the strike zone. Entering the game hitting over .500 on the year with an eye-popping slash line in their first nine games. Berigan continued to barrel baseballs all day. Rocketing a pair of doubles to the middle/opposite gap and then lacing a hard L – 7 in another bat, it was three barrels with one solid ground ball right at the third base in four plate appearances. He moves like a shortstop with smooth hands, quick feet, and athleticism, while showing range laterally and downhill. He made a pair of difficult plays look routine, starting a 6 – 4–3 double play to escape a jam and then finishing the game going up the middle to field a tough in-between hop and force the runner at second.  Berigan is a name that college programs need to keep close tabs on as an option for their 2027 recruiting classes. It’s the top of the order bat with a long-term SS profile.

Positional Profile: SS/2B Athletic MIF with clean fielding mechanics and throwing motion.
Body: 5-10, 155-pounds. Tall, wiry frame with athletic proportions.
Hit: RHH. Shoulder-width stance that is pre-loaded onto the back leg. Utilizes a short leg lift in sequence with forward bat lean and bat wrap. Utilizes a direct, downhill bat path with a high finish that stays on top of the ball. Looks for pitches low in the zone to drop the barrel to. 67.5 mph bat speed with 9 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 94 max exit velocity, averaged 89.5 mph. 319' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-86 mph. Loose, continuous arm action from a 3/4 slot. Accurate throws with moderate carry.
Defense: Consistently fields on the left foot and works comfortably around the ball. Works with loose and active hands. Follows the throw through the bag.
ATH: 7.43 runner in the 60. 1.63 and 3.84 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

With a deep crop of 2027 talent in attendance at this event it was one of the tougher groups to pick just five players out of, but Berigan really shined amongst this group. I've seen Gavin going back to his FR. season at Thousand Oaks High School and his overall profile has continued to steadily trend upwards over that time frame. But, the growth he has put together since I last saw him in May of 2025 at the Future Games Tryout: Malibu to this event was a big part of what set him apart. Berigan has added nearly 15+ lbs. of strength to his frame now in the mid 150's on his 5'10 frame while still having time and room to add more strength before his high school career completes. The maturity to his frame showed up in his tools on the field with PRs in nearly every hitting metric gathered via the Blast Motion and Trackman systems in use. Berigan is now generating 12 Gs of rotational acceleration to go with a swing that averages upper 60's bat speed with explosive hands that work up near the 25 MPH range. Those metrics combined with his astute approach/timing at the plate combined into an eye-opening batting practice session where Berigan posted impressive numbers with a new PR max EV at 93.5 MPH, average EV at 89.5 MPH, max distance at 319' with a 42% hard hit rate. He has always been a strong defender for me personally with his clean footwork, smooth hands, ability to throw from multiple slots, but now with his arm strength ticking in the mid 80's to go with previous 6.6 run times there is plenty of evidence to his potential to stick at the SS position beyond the high school level. Berigan will be a priority live look for me this spring after his showing at the LA PSID to see how all of his tools improvements show during live games.
