Carmona manned the catching position primarily in 2024 and showed a solid profile back there while flashing a sound offensive profile. Now in my second look at him this spring the improvements he has made on each side of the game have improved his overall profile. Carmona now looks the part of a strong defender at a premium position with improved arm strength (had him as low at 1.96 in between innings with consistent 2.03 times and nailed a runner with a 2.06 throw right on the bag) which has helped him throw out an impressive 60+% of the baserunners who have tried to run on him this spring. His body looks leaner and more athletic this year which helped in his blocking technique with more agility laterally/quickness getting down into position to block spin. His ability to receive was already strong as a Soph. and now as JR. looks to have been polished even more with clean quiet actions in the presentation of pitches. At the plate he has made improvements to his feel for hard contact and is showing a better approach to get hittable pitches. There is still room for growth across the board, but a strong defensive profile at a premium position which could have impact potential as he continues to mature should have Carmona as a name to follow in the 2026 for the next level.
