Jrue Hurd, Ruben S. Ayala High (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: OF/OF Compact, athletic hitter whose coiled upper half generates present power with a line drive, fly ball approach.
Body: 5-9, 175-pounds. Very athletic, compact frame with present strength in the lower half.
Hit: LHH. Narrow lower half with the front foot slightly offset and a knee bend present. Hands held below the rear shoulder with the back elbow flared downward. Bat angled backwards towards the backstop. Very loose upper half. Medium leg lift stride, loading well onto the rear leg. Hands don't cast much, keeping the body compact through the swing. Shows a lot of coil with the upper half to initiate power. Hands stay in throughout the swing with a line drive, fly ball trajectory.
Arm: LH. OF-83 mph. Full-circle arm backpath from a high 3/4 release point. Very loose, letting it rip.
Defense: Approaches the ball in an urgent manner, showing urgent motions throughout. Trusts the glove and the arm. Slows down on the crow hop but makes up for it with aggressive arm action. Overall a quick fielder who can get to all spots.
7/30/25

Jrue Hurd, St. John Bosco High School (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: OF/OF Athletic OF who produces consistent loud contact with power potential.
Body: 5-7, 168-pounds. Compact, strong build with sound athleticism and room for further physical development.
Hit: LHH. Sets up upright in an open stance with weight slightly toward the back side. Hands rest at shoulder level with a low back elbow. Barrel sits low and flat behind the shoulder. Initiates the load by sinking further into the back side as the hands drift back and the barrel works vertical. Uses a subtle leg kick, occasionally incorporating a toe-tap for timing, before a controlled stride forward, landing even. Fires hips as he lands during the stride. Hands work quick through the zone with plus bat speed present. Maintains a slight uphill path while staying on top of the ball, showing strong barrel feel and a consistent line-drive approach to the pull side and up the middle. Flashes pull-side power. 63.3 mph bat speed with 30 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 96 max exit velocity, averaged 89.7 mph. 341' max distance.
Arm: LH. OF-81 mph. Full arm path with aggressive action, working from a 3/4 slot. Shows present arm speed and strength, generating good carry on throws. Arm projects well for RF.
Defense: Works downhill with quick strides and can adjust to bad hops in the air. Has room to refine reads and jumps, but displays present athleticism and the potential to develop into a center field profile.
ATH: 6.73 runner in the 60. 1.55 and 3.70 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 27.20 max vertical.
Vizual Edge: 62.75 Edge Score

Hurd was a standout performer at the Central California Preseason ID before being a part of the St. John Bosco CIF-SS D1 title squad during the spring. Now he caps his Soph. campaign with an eye-opening performance at the 2025 California State Games. A LH hitting OF with CF defensive athleticism he showed off an impressive feel to hit and hit with impact over the two games he played at Fullerton Union. He opened his State Games game play by lacing a line drive homer to the pull side at 90+ MPH EV going 1-2 in that first game. When he returned for his final game at Fullerton Union the compactly built Hurd was ready to do damage again by opening the game with a rocket line drive homer to RCF that was over 90+ MPH EV then just missed another extra base hit when he drilled a 98 MPH EV line drive right at the opponents RF and finally comleted his 2-5 performance by narrowly missing another homer when he flew out to the wall in CF. Hurd will return to Bosco looking to compete for a role on the Braves squad as they prepare to defend their title.

Hurd made the trip up to the Central California Preseason ID and the 2-sport athlete from St. John Bosco made a loud impression during our staffs first look at him. Solidly built at 5'7 167.6 lbs. the LH hitting OF gives off a CF defensive profile vibe to go with a top of the order type offensive profile. St. John Bosco was the CIF-SS D3 runner up in 2024 and Hurd is looking to earn a varsity role with the Braves to help them make another run in 2025. With the tools he showed off at Ventura College there is definitely plenty of things he can do to help the Braves. Running a 7.16 60 to go with consistent hard contact you can see Hurd driving balls to the gaps and turning them into extra bases on the regular. He peaked at 96.4 MPH on his max EV with a 90.9 MPH avg EV with plenty of bat speed at the present (75 MPH) and explosiveness in the turn (22.6 Gs) of rotational acceleration. His underlying batted ball data also shows a 44% hard hit rate and 67% sweet spot rate.
