The left-handed hitting Rose got the start at second base in this one and he made the most of every opportunity on defense. He moves easily in all directions on the dirt and has enough arm-strength to move over to the left side where he’ll likely end up in the coming years. Rose is a high energy player who started in the outfield a year ago for the Spartans. Batting leadoff, Rose drew a walk to start the bottom half of the first for Damien, following a strikeout in his next at-bat, Rose hit a seed to center field for a base hit to move a runner into scoring position. It’s a simple, relaxed approach at the plate where his present bat speed is obvious. As the body continues to develop physically it’s easy to see the power increase as well as the swing mechanics are defined and consistent. Rose is a high ceiling player, especially now that he’s back at his natural position of the infield.
