Rottschafer was the top ranked player from California to compete in the West Coast Games and the OC based INF product showed why he is one of the top uncommitted players left on the board. Rottschafer showed off improved athleticism to his profile giving even further evidence to his potential to stick up the middle long term by running a 6.84 60 yard sprint with 1.62 10 yard and 3.79 30 yard splits while reaching a 20.1 MPH max run speed. That upward trending athleticism carried over into his defensive workout where his actions stood out from the 70ish infielders in attendance with natural rhythm to his footwork, smooth consistent hands/transfer, easy comfort throwing from all angles showing accuracy from a low 80's INF arm velocity. The defensive profile for Rottschafer is enticing alone, but he showed off his strong offensive ability during his round of batting practice. Rottschafer had recently been at the California State Games where he had a strong showing, but came back at West Coast Games to post personal bests with improved bat speed now up to 74.6 MPH, producing 15 Gs of rotational acceleration in his swing. The swing for Rottschafer is geared to use the middle of the field for hard contact which he did throughout his round posting a max exit velocity at 96.5 MPH which was amongst the upper half of top EVs for the day across all players in attendance. For good measure Rottschafer had a solid 84 MPH average EV while putting up hard line drives at 318' to the gaps. Wylan showed a well rounded profile as a player who can stick on the dirt long term with impact potential defense while adding an offensive profile the can profile to add strong depth to a lineup at the next level.

Wylan Rottschafer, Costa Mesa High (CA), 2026
Positional Profile: SS/RHP Dynamic middle INF with fluid actions in the field and ability to drive the ball in the air.
Body: 6-0, 170-pounds. Wiry, well-built frame with room for further fill.
Hit: RHH. Sets up upright and balanced with a slight knee bend. Hands sit in front of back shoulder with a vertical barrel vertical and minimal bat waggle. Initiates the load by sinking further into the back knee as the hands drift back and the back elbow rises slightly. Uses a toe-tap trigger for timing before striding forward with intent. Quick hip turn at foot strike with hands staying tight and working direct to the ball. Slightly uphill bat path promotes getting the ball in the air. Uses a heavy pull-side approach with consistent hard contact and flashes some present pop. 66 mph bat speed with 11 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 98 max exit velocity, averaged 87.3 mph. 367' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-83 mph. Compact, quick arm path working up to a 3/4 slot, with the ability to throw from multiple angles. Shows present arm speed with consistent carry and accuracy on throws. Displays the arm strength to stick on the left side of the infield.
Defense: Stays tall with quick, short strides to work around the ball. Moves with fluidity and aggression downhill. Displays solid lateral range and soft hands, paired with the athleticism to stick up the middle.
ATH: 23.80 max vertical.
Vizual Edge: 69.15 Edge Score

2/20/25

Rottschafer got the start on the mound for Costa Mesa and delivered 4 shutout innings while only surrendering the minimum of one hit. Early and often he attacked hitters with his secondary pitches, showing his ability to miss bats with his good pitch mix through his 5 strikeouts. A wiry frame at 5’11” and 170 lbs with plenty of room to grow, already using his body well in the way he gets down the mound. Has great feel for all of his pitches and loves to live low in the zone. Rottschafer also continued his contributions for his team with his bat as he provided a hit and an RBI which gave Costa Mesa their first run of the game.

1/05/25

Despite not registering a hit in-game, Rottschaffer did enough in the workout and defensively to cement himself amongst the top performers. An athletic infielder, Rottschaffer flashed some power during BP to the tune of 95.1 mph EV’s with 19.9 mph hand speed. He showed an innate ability in-game to get to balls both in and away and get the barrel on them. He had three hard-hit groundouts in-game and were it not for two really strong defensive plays he would’ve ended with two base hits. Smart and instinctive player on the dirt with a 78 mph arm on the infield
