2023 right-handed pitcher Tate Smith (Slammers) comes with a big frame and is still growing at 6-foot-5, 220-pounds. All around athlete and plays tight end in football. As a RHP, the fastball ranges from 88-90. Release is a high ¾ and he touched a 92 with some arm side run there. Have seen great development in refining his repeatable delivery. Strong lower half with long levers. Slider has a chance to be a wipeout pitch, currently at 84 mph and has downward plane. Changeup is currently developing. Three-pitch mix with good tempo and ability to change speeds. Very high ceiling.
2023 RHP/1B Tate Smith was equally impressive on the mound. Smith’s fastball sat 88-91 with armside run and plus control. Repeatable delivery with long levers and athleticism. Slider at 79 mph has a chance to be a dominant pitch. +Spin. Smith ranked No. 3 in the 2023 class and could be the top uncommitted player in the state.
6-foot-5, 202-pounds with confident body language. Side step transitions to pivot foot. Waist high leg lift with toe down and balanced throughout. Tall to fall delivery. Extended stride to open toe with good push through on stride landing. Release point high 3⁄4. Good glove side leverage and creates good torso rotation with slight momentum to glove side. Arm ease on follow through. Fastball sat 85-86 mph during event, although we've had him up 87. Plus movement and arm side sink! Slider at 74 mph and continues to improve. He's able to throw it in the zone with good arm speed. Changeup was 79-80 mph. Great feel and plus rotation, some downward action. Tate is a top 2023 in the State of Colorado and has continued to improve. The velo continues to tick upwards along with his ceiling.
6-foot-4, 190-pounds with small deliberate side step transitions to pivot foot. Rhythm in leg lift with tight coil, toe down. Tall to fall delivery with long arc on back side. Open toe with good push through on stride landing. True ¾ release, extends glove side and creates good torso rotation with slight momentum to glove side. Arm ease on follow through. Fastball was 80-82 with very good arm side run and sink! Slider was 71 mph with ideal release for slider, in zone with good arm speed. Changeup at 76 mph. Great feel and plus rotation, some downward action. Would consider Tate a top follow in the Colorado 2023 class. Great pitchability now with high ceiling. Can project natural velocity jumps. Slider also has a chance to be great!

Hit: Right-handed hitter with shoulder width open stance. Lowers and sways to back side load. Stride is simple up/down with some weight transfer to 50/50 weight distribution launch. Barrel is parallel to ground with hands high. Load to upright barrel, arm angles maintained to launch. Aggressive rear side acceleration. Hands have downward path with extended clean finish. Stays on balance consistently with exit velocity of 91. Tate is a two-way player who PBR recognizes as a top 2023 right-handed pitcher! His athleticism and his desire to develop as a hitter should continue.
Power: Long levers and quickness give Tate a chance for future power potential.
Arm: 76 mph at first base with long arc and long clean finish. Good positioning of feet prior to throw.
Defense: Fields ball deep in stance. Great actions around the bag. Good athlete with tools and can refine his skill set as he develops.
