Redshirt sophomore right-hander Dylan Simmons struggled in relief during Saturday's game, allowing four hits and two runs in one inning pitched. He struck out two batters with a fastball ranging from 92-94 mph and a 84-87 mph slider.
10/12/18 - Florida State commit. 6-foot-3, 220-pound right-handed pitcher, strong, physical frame. Arm action is long, over-the-top, accelerates with some effort out front. Lands open towards the first base side, finishes falling off. When able to keep everything on-line, delivery is effective. Fastball sat 87-90. Curveball, 12/6 shape, 76-78.
10/08/16- Florida State recruit. Currently ranked No. 10 in the Florida Class of 2019, No. 18 Overall. Tall, strong, projectable build standing at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. Throws from an over the top arm slot with effort and gets some extension out in front. Fastball sat 86-88 mph touching 89 with run/cutting action onto right handed batters. Slider sat 74-76 mph that shows some depth and sharpness at times with good movement across the zone. Curveball sat 70-71 mph. Works quickly and when he stays in line on his delivery he pounds the zone and can get in a groove with multiple strikeouts. Will continue to be a high follow.
6/27/16- Florida State recruit. Currently ranked No. 10 in the Florida 2019 class, No. 24 overall. Strong, athletic, projectable build on a 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame. Loose arm delivering the ball out of the high ¾ arm slot with a simple and repeatable delivery. Gets good extension out in front on his delivery, occasionally can fall off to the side causing his pitches to tail out of the zone. More consistency on his follow through will allow for even better command of the zone. Fastball had some downward tilt and sat 87-89 mph, touching 91 compared to 83-86 in late April. Pitched with confidence and attacked hitters. Curveball sat 71-73 mph with some depth and shape.
4/27/16- Florida State recruit. Currently ranked No. 10 in the Florida 2019 class, No. 24 overall. Lean, projectable 6-foot-3, 185-pound build. Loose arm action out of the high 3/4 and at times over the top arm slot. Gets a high leg kick for his delivery and gets some extension out in front, can fall off the side. Fastball sat 83-86 mph with some cutting action to it. Curveball was 72-74 with some depth, at times left it too far up in the zone. Young arm that will continue to improve with strength and maturity.
2/13/16 - Florida St commit. 6-foot-3, 185 pound right hander with a tall loose lean projectable body. Loose live arm at a high ¾ arm slot. Fastball was 82-84 mph with some glove side cut. Curve ball was a ¾ roller at 68-70 mph. Changeup was 73-74 mph and slowed down a bit to throw it. Very young good looking arm with a ton of upside. 1 inn, 0 hits, 0 BB, 2 Ks
1/31/16- Committed to Florida State.
8/28/15 - Tall loose lean athletic body with a loose live arm with very good arm speed. Has been a very good young follow on the mound but stepped it up a notch this weekend with his fast ball getting up to 87 mph and pitching at 85-86 mph. The Slider was 75 76 mph with a short 3/4 break. The curve ball was 70-71 mph. It had a bigger 3/4 break with depth. Both breaking balls had good rotation and will be average ML pitches in the future. The change up is still a work in progress at 74 mph. He drops his arm slot to throw it. A very good looking young arm that will continue to improve with physical maturity. Colleges will begin to recruit him soon.
8/5/15 - Incoming freshman who stands at 6-foot-2 185 pounds with a tall, lean, athletic, and projectable frame with strength. At the plate he gets a good separation for his load, using his lower half well by firing his back hip, and has plus bat speed for his age. The ball jumps off his bat, evidenced by his 83 mph exit bat velocity. Behind the plate he has a quick transfer, good footwork, and already an average ML arm down to second throwing 77 mph. As he gets older his arm action will need to get a little shorter but he is ok for now. 1.99-2.07 pop time. On the mound he uses his lower half well and gets very good extension. He could stay over his backside a little longer and he occasionally falls off towards 1B but for the most part everything is in line. Long, loose over the top arm action. Fastball sits 80-83 and touches 84 mph. 67-69 mph curveball that has a tight, downward action. Simmons is a definite division I prospect who will likely be receiving attention his freshman year.
6-foot-2, 185 pound catcher/pitcher with a tall loose lean athletic projectable body. Hands are fair with a crude release. Shows good arm strength. Average ML arm. Also has been up to 86 mph on the mound. Short quick stroke with good bat speed and strength for such a young guy. Stays inside ball well. Aggressive approach with the bat. Can drive ball in both gaps. Gets good extension through the ball. Uses lower half well. Finishes with good balance. Will have big future power.
