5/11/24
Needing big innings in a back-and-forth battle in game one, Rein would give the Panthers four huge innings while earning the win and showing quality stuff in the process. Creating a ton of funk and deception from a compact arm action and low slot, the Georgia commit worked a heavy dose of turbo sinkers and disappearing changups to keep the North Oconee lineup off-balance. Reaching back to grab 89 on multiple occasions while living 85-87 with tremendous arm-side run with present command for in-zone misses. Changeup flashed above-average potential at 77-80 coming out of the same fastball tunnel with late parachute-like tumble action that looked impossible to pick up out of the hand. Showed the confidence to throw it in any situation with positive results. Rein, who is more known for the impressive bat, would add a ringing double in game two, driving a ball into the LCF gap while flashing quality bat speed on an on-plane swing. Starr’s Mill will need another big two-way performance this weekend from Rein as they make their way to another state championship berth.

UGA Commit. 6-foot-3, 175 pounds. There’s plenty to like with this rangy athlete, as he continues to get more twitchy at the plate as he gets stronger. As he has an incredible pro SS prospect ahead of him in Tai, he plays 2B for the Lions and plays it well. It’s also great for his development to see a SS work like that every day. Rein has present instincts with nice footwork for his age and feel for all infield positions. All actions are smooth and his subtle push through the ball with soft hands help stop would be bad hops. As he’s shown off in our showcases, there’s advanced arm strength for his class. But what’s most eye opening about Brock in the past year are the improvements in his swing, specifically body control and fluidity. As he was growing into the body last year, there was much more head movement and his separation wasn’t as timed up. The efficiency in his load is so much better with the chest now loading the hands for him, and the linear connection has improved just as much. That connection along with newly developed strength have allowed him to keep his head much more quiet for tracking. He went the other way against a solid mid 80’s arm and his bat will be a nice development to follow for the rest of 2023.
