5/26/22

The top two-way prospect in the class slides in at No. 4, 3B/RHP Jax Phillips (East Cobb Academy; Georgia). Phillips brings the power in everything he does. Standing 6-foot-3, 185-pounds, he has the frame to do it as well. Phillips swings a heavy barrel while keeping it simple throughout. He uses his long levers and powerful lower half to get extended and drive the ball with big power. On the mound, he is just as impressive with a fastball that can reach 90 mph. His arm works short and clean on the back-side, allowing for him to repeat. The velocity continues to tick upwards with no signs of slowing down.

2024 Player Rankins

Our first look of Phillips came at the Underclass Games in June where he excelled, both in the workout and in-game against players two years older than him. A right-handed hitter, he has barely begun to fill out his 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame. As he adds strength, the power potential in his swing and arm might be at the tops of his class. Phillips has an easy gap-to-gap swing with quick hand speed. On the mound, he already can work up to 85 and projects to add much more as he matures.

Underclass Games

Georgia commit. 6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed hitting third baseman and right-handed pitcher, lean, projectable frame, plenty of strength on the way as he fills out his young frame, advanced offensively, ran a 7.40 laser-timed 60. Offensively, balanced setup, hands load back smoothly, shallow leg kick timing trigger, great balance through contact. Gap-to-gap type hitter, gains extension through the zone with an uphill barrel path, drove balls regularly with easy effort, 88 exit velocity off a tee. During game play, facing older competition, drove a ball into the right center gap for a double. Defensively, long, loose arm action to a high ¾ slot, accurate, 86 across the diamond. Plays through the ball, fields out front, funnels into mid section, quick on transfers, fluid footwork. On the mound, arm works with some length on the back-side, accelerates quickly to get out front consistently, ¾ slot. Clean drop and drive delivery, works on-line, lands square, finishes square to home. Fastball sat 81-82, touched 83, flashed run. Curveball, 12/6 shape, depth, 68-69.

4/27/19

6-foot-1, 180-pound corner infielder and right-handed pitcher, physically advanced for age, strength throughout frame, projectable body. Stood out offensively, at the plate showed a smooth, athletic swing, somewhat uphill barrel path, looks to pull the ball with a power approach. Going to be a follow power bat down the road.
